I'm in need of another ball. I have a Columbia 300 Perfect Rival as my benchmark ball and an Ebonite Maxim for spares and I need something a little weaker. My house I bowl at is all wood, around 39 ft in length of oil, and its usually medium oil. But the times I usually go and bowl, the lanes are so dry and worn down a lot thanks to some parties and get togethers. So pretty much I need something that can handle carrydown or something to back up my Perfect Rival. I was thinking about a Hammer Razyr? Anyone or btw, I usually play around 2nd arrow maybe even 1st, stroker you could say, low revs, with speeds from 16-19 mph?? Is the Razyr a good choice??

The Razyr is an awesome ball got one about three weeks ago and I love it. The Razyr is stronger than you think though, dont get me wrong it is a good dry lane ball but it is not weak by any means. I dont think you could go wrong with the Razyr but the Power Grooves would be good also. :)

The Razyr is a good ball but not what you should be looking for. There will be way too much gap between the Perfect Rival and the Razyr. If you want to stay with Columbia I would suggest a Loud Noize or if you looking at Hammer the Cherry Vibe.

Keep in mind you said you wanted something weaker but also wanted it to handle carrydown. It may be difficult to find a weaker cover that can handle too much carrydown.

Thanks guys this really helps, Im still up about getting the razyr. (I should of cleared myself) When the Rival is too much, I want to go to something when the lanes change. And over time, I have thrown all kinds of things: Brunswick BVP Wizard, Storm Trifecta, and many Ebonite balls. Im just gonna stay with Ebonite International for now. (except Track, not a fan of it) :D :p

So anymore idea and/or comments??

By the way, Is it ok for my kind of style to have a 2 ball arsnal and a spare ball??

Well once again I will first defer to the more senior and knowledgeable members of this board, but my answer would be yes, if you are comfortable making the adjustments you need to on the conditions you bowl on, then two balls and a spare ball would be fine. :)

The Razyr is a good dry lane ball but is not good in carrydown, I would try something like an Emerald or Blue Vibe if you want Hammer, if not heres some options from Ebonite International:

Columbia:

Loud Noize
Anything from the Wrath Line
Jazz

Ebonite:

New Bash/Clash (red/black, blue and turquoise)
Playmaker
Pin Slasher

If your willing to go outside of that, the Tropical Storms are good and the Planet line from Roto Grip also would fit very well into what you want. In fact IMO the Planet line would be the best fit for what you want.

I agree that while the Rayzr is a good ball not the best for carry down. I would look for something from the Vibe series, a C300 Loud Noize, or Bash or Clash.

Idle, wouldn'nt the Playmaker and Pinslasher be close if not stronger than the Perfect Rival.

Oops, my fault I thought he said rival, not the perfect. Playmaker drilled for length would be fine, take the Pin Slasher out.

Once again I thank all of you for helping me out. (I really want to get serious in bowling so this is helping, use to be a one ball, spare ball guy) I just need something I can throw on weekends (because kids. parties, and eariler leagues tend to mess with the oil and the Perfect Rival will either move too much or not enough) The Neptune from Roto-Grip looks extremely useful... The Tropical storms and the Grooves, Im gonna stay away from possibly, And the Playmaker I've thown and its reaction is too weird, idk why it just is. The Bashs/Clashes I may take a second look.... so to most of you the Razyr would be bad for medium dry-carrydown......Ok better question, what is the best ball to fit between my Perfect Rival (medium-heavy) and the spare ball?? The ball I can go to after the Rival is too much or too long that can handle the tractions on the lanes?? (my stats are above on how I bowl....)

What do you mean by "too long"?, too much is obviously coming up high early and hitting the nose, does too long to you mean that its skidding too far and not making it to the pocket?

i would recommend the avalanche solid actually over the avalanche pearl.
