Hey all.
As the Geico Plastic Ball tourney is coming up/just started I thought I would actually see what it was like to only be allowed to bowl a plastic ball :) I used my spare ball which is a white dot.
I stuck all of my hammer stuff in my bag and left them there for the whole first game of league.
To my suprise I actaully didnt do that bad. I shot a 221 with 7 strikes, and one open where the ball overhooked.
Carry was not a issue at all for me, if it hit the pocket all ten went. The only trouble I had was having to be alot more accurate and try to release the ball exactly the same each time.
If I was a board or couple outside the ball would just skid way too long.
I found that axit tilt and forward roll made a massive difference to the shape and hook of the ball. With a normal round the side kind of release that we all try and do with resin balls the ball did not have time to hook set, it just skidded way too far. Next I tried alot of forward roll, coming right up the back of the ball, this worked superb, it had earlier hook and continued right into the pocket. :)
The line I was playing was over 8 out to 5 and in again, I did try down 5 but it overhooked, leaving me that split.
All in all, chuffed that I can bowl well with plastic too but it did make me realise how much easier to hit the pocket it is with modern balls. I think I may practice only with plastic from now on :)
