I just started bowling on a league about a month ago. I just bought the Hammer Black Widow I was wondering on how i should drill the ball. This is the first ball i have ever bought and i have been using the the balls on the rack. I usually bowl straight no hook or anything but im looking for the hook I average a 150 so if anyone could help me out please.

Well you made a good choice on purchasing the original Black Widow as your firs high performance ball its my go to ball.As for drilling since you throw straight i would drill it for length. But not knowing how you bowl exactly (rev rat, speed, etc.) itd be hard to give you accurate advice.Even though people on here are know the ins and outs of the sport of bowling the best thing for you would be to have your proshop guy personally watch you since hes the one drilling your ball and ask him as many questions as possible.Good luck.

If you throw a plastic ball it most likely wont hook due to the coverstock and it not having a core. Also it depends on if your getting revolutions on the ball or not.I would go on youtube and just type in bowling tips or something like that to help you.And if your really serious about bowling it would help alot if you got taught by a USBC certified coach.

If your having trouble hooking the ball, first of all I would get the ball drilled for the maximum amount of hook possible, I would tell your pro shop that and Im sure they could help you. The ball you use at the alley doesnt properly fit you, you will get natural hook with a ball that fits you, believe me. I throw 2 hands, but I cant get a ball to move with 1 hand, until I got 1 drilled to fit me for 1 hand, now I can make it move just fine. So just make sure to get it fitted right and the ball will hook just fine.

First piece of advice I will give you is, when you take this ball to the pro shop and have it drilled, make sure you get your hand fitted properly. It is very very improteant that the ball fits your hand like a glove. You should not have to squeeze the ball with your fingers or thumb to hold onto it. The ball should fit your hand so when you hold the ball at your side, it stays on your hand without and extra squeezing or pressure from your fingers or thumb. While being fitted , take your time and be certain it feels good to you. This will also aid when learning to throw a hook. There will be less stress and less forced movment of your hand to create a hook.

Talk with the Pro Shop person fitting you and ask if he could watch you throw a few balls before drilling the Black Widow. You made a good choice in purchasing the Black Widow. The combined Gask Mask Core and cover stock of the Black Widow and the proper fit will make it easier to learn to create the turn on the ball to make it hook. Your pro shop person can also instruct you on the proper ways to hook the ball.

The obvious question that hasn't been asked by our esteemed panel,(only because I've been absent for awhile.Work, work, work!!!),would be:Can you even throw a hook? It ain't as easy as we make it look. Have the pro shop guy watch you roll with a ball off the rack that fits your hand.Well,as close as y'all can get, anyway. Let him see if you can turn the ball over and go from there. No sense in drilling it for max hook if you can't rev it up.

The BWS is a great ball,(Got two in the bag myself),but no spin,no win.
