I've had no problems carrying with a 14lb. ball.

With the technology in these balls these days, 14lbs hits just as hard as anything else, besides your health is a lot more important than your bowling so I would definately get the 14.

Do not worry about loosing the carry from a 14 lb. ball. The carry in the 14 and 15lb. balls are sometimes better than a 16 pound ball. It is all how you throw the ball . A 14 lb ball will carry as good if not better than a 15 ball .

I am also a "Mature Bolwler" (Old Fart is more like it).

I have bounced around with 14 and 15 equipment for the last 4 years. I dropped to 14 about 4 years ago due to some health issues. Once I overcame those problems I moved back to 15. Over the summer I dropped back to 14 to increase my ball speed.

No noticable difference in carry, but my ball speed is up and this me helps control over reaction. You may also find you get a bit more deflection and instead of thos stone 9s the ball my deflect a bit more and kick out the 9 pin

After taking a couple weeks off for injuries and some other health issues Last night I bowled a double shift on Kegels Middle Road Pattern I had 1318 for 6 so I was pretty pleased. I actually bowled better late. Used a Hot Sauce the entire night except for those pesky 10 pins

As a certified "mature bowler, of 64 years of age, I can definentally say that I have found no real drop off in going from a 15lb to a 14lb ball. All four balls I have were ordered at 14 lb 2oz, undrilled, and they drill out to 14. I am averaging from 190 to 196 in four leagues this year and the the 14 will rip the rack. I blew a 700 Monday as I had 268, 234 and 184, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Even us old bolwers still choke, :p

As has been previously stated here, the new cover stocks on the ball negates the lesser weights, and your health is most important. I might suggest you look at the Razyr as it has really fitted my game of slow ball speed (13.5 mph) and med rev rate. It is very controable and I am very happy with mine. Good luck.

I throw both a 14, and a 15 atm. I just moved up from 14 to fifteen due to my increasing arm strength. I had just 2 14's (my psycho and spareball) I can tell you right now, that between my 4 balls my Psycho is still my go to ball because it Hits fantastically, I also get more revs which allows me more room for error. I am 15 years old, so I am in no definition old, but I have played baseball since I was 5 and I can already tell that when I get older I will have problems. Anyways, the 14 pound balls hit just as well as 15 pounders. If you throw a 15 now and cant get as much lift. On the 14, your revs will increase to help you get more hook and or angle for hitting power. Also, your speed might increase, which if you control it can be a major plus.

Have no fear my man...

As everyone else has already stated, you won't lose a thing as far as carry goes. I dropped to 14lbs, and I couldn't be happier. I am a 6'1" 250lb man, and the hardest part of the whole thing was throwing "girly weight" (see my signature) But the improvement in my game has put me up with the real "men"
