View Full Version : What should i do?
Sabotage

Ok, so currently I bowl in 3 different hours throughout the week. One particular house I slide entirely too much on and foul quite a bit. I have tried taking brush to my shoe but that doesnt work or it works too well and i stop on a dime. The other 2 houses my shoes were great and theyre so comfortable.
What should I do? i dont really plan on bowling at that one house too much after this season is over in april. I dont want to buy new shoes for 8 weeks either.
what other options are there for me, if any?

Unsure of any other options but when you do buy another pair of shoes I would get some with interchangeable soles. They are realativly cheap and I bowl in two different houses, one has wood approaches and one has synthetic and I have to change slides between the two houses. Steve

I have had this problem in the past, before i got shoes with interchangeable soles, and what I did was lightly rough the sole up. It took a couple expierments with the wire brush to see how much to rough the sole up, but I finally found a happy medium. Good luck.

If you still plan on bowling in more than one house and doing tournaments and stuff, I would definately say invest in a pair of shoes with interchangable soles, the older SST's or if you can find a Pair of Dynothanes, they should be cheaper. Just cant use the Dynothanes in PBA competition.

i definitely plan to bowl in more houses and more tournaments, but not for a while anyways. just curious if there was something i can do for the next 8 weeks of league left. my teammate who has the old SSTs slides more with his roughest sole. he slides more and has way less power than me.
oh well ill just suck it up for the next 2 months of league

The sole isnt what does it, atleast for me, its the brakes, I use the rippled rubber brakes, and believe me, they will make you dead stop. I dont slide more than 4 inches so I make sure I dont on any conditions with these.

Sabotage, invest in a good pair of shoes with removable sliders and heels. I bought some SST 6 a few years ago and they are worth their weight in gold. Bowling as you know is all about repeatability, when you can take the slide variable out of the equation, that is a huge advantage. Having adjustable sliders and heels you should be able to get the same (or similar) slide in any house.
If you bowl in more than just one house this is a must, I'd say good shoes are as important if not more than a plastic spare ball.
Plus you can buy new sliders if you where them out. My Dexters are made with Kangaroo leather and they are probable the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. After 2 years the heal started to blow out on the inside (I have rough heels), I took it i to a shoe repair place had them put leather heels in ($10) and there are even better than new!

Oh and for a cheaper solution, I've seen people lick their hands and wipe it on their slider so reduce slide...

Haha, well you can "increase" slide with Rosin. Yes, Rosin or so my local alleys mechanic says. Rosin would decrease your slide, but im pretty sure it would also be tough to get out for the houses you slide well at. So, unadvised to do this, but thought I would throw it out

Bowlingball.com Dexter SST4SE. Great shoes good price had mine two weeks and love them.
or a little trick I learned when I was still sliding too much (even using the brown pad for my SST8's) was to lick your finger and slightly swip it across the bottom of your sole..
dont get it majorly wet or all over the place, just a small swipe down the middle of your slide foot with your dampish finger.. (and actually after trying this a few times you can start to figure out the best spot, mine is directly in the middle of the sole, but maybe for some it would feel better to stop more towards the toe.)
and rub your foot on the approach to see if that feels a lil better.. should help stop more but still provide slide..
and the times ive done this as long as you dont soak the bottom of your shoe, your not hurting the approach for the other bowlers.
Just a thought. :)
