Monday night is our PBA X league. We lost 5 out of 7. the other team won 5 out of 7. They ended up tying us for first place. Our team had already won one of the thirds of the league. The championship is 5 games over the 5 different patterns in one night. The rules said we were to bowl a roll off game the night of the championship!

we said screw it and let the other team have the spot. 5 games is rough enough, another would have sucked. I am good friends with the team so we let them in. If we would have rolled off and won, there would only be 3 teams in finals instead of 4. Now its going to be more of a challenge and more fun.

would you have done the same thing?>

I don't disagree with you and would have probably done the same thing, however, you should check with the league officials to see if it needs to be agreed upon by the other teams (BOD vote).

If it was a bigger money league I would have bowled the 6th game, 6 games is nothing really, if you want to bowl regionals and stuff your gonna have to be able to bowl atleast 8. I usually bowl 12 when I go so it doesnt seem like much to me. But getting back to the topic, if it was a bigger money league I would have bowled the other game, with only 3 teams is easier to get first place.

I would check and see if the other teams agree . I probably would have done the same thing, but you never know how other people involved feel.

sabotage, i think it is a good show of sportsmanship on your part and your team. i do also agree with the others that about getting the opinion of the others on the league and perhaps getting a vote on the subject, just to keep things from getting complicated if someone complains later.

this is a no money league to get high schoolers in it. no trophies, no money, just bragging rights. i dont think other teams would have cared as we are here to have fun

well then this changes the entire situation... I know i wouldn't have any objections to it if I were in your opponent's (or the other teams') shoes. That's a great idea to do a PBA X league for free (except for lineage of course)

In my Scratch Classic league (Where there is approx. $14,000 total in the prize fund), a similar situation happened, where we ended up tied for first after one of the quarters.

Our season was split up into 4 quarters, with a one week 5-seed step-ladder roll-off after the 4th quarter for the league championship. Each quarter's winner was given a berth into the roll-off, plus a wildcard seed for the team that didn't win an automatic berth but had the most points throughout the season. In our league rules, we made sure it was stated that if a team wins more than one automatic berth into the roll-off from winning more than one quarter, then the 2nd place team would take the 2nd of the automatic berths.

That's what ended up happening to my team, and since seeds #1-4 for the roll-off are determined by total points throughout the year, my team is the #1 seed. We never officially 'won' a quarter all year, but since we came in T-1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th, we accumulated enough points to only need to bowl in one game for the league title.
