Kind of a general question. When you sell a 1 time drilled ball is it important to give the layout measurements. Why I ask is I am going to change over to another Ebonite/Hammer family ball so going to go ahead and sell my HSP. It has about 40 games on it and in great shape but I worry, I know with 95% certainy that my pro shop can give me the correct measurements. But say if I sell it on E-bay and those measurements are wrong, I certainly would feel bad about it being wrong.

So I thought maybe I should represent it as a 1 time drill and unknown measurements to be careful not to mis-lead the buyer. I mean for the most part whoever buys it, would plug and re-drill anyhow, but just needed your thoughts never tried to sell a high performance ball that was fairly new.

If you are unsure about the span measurements and the pitch's, go to your pro shop with the ball and have him measure the span and pitch's on the ball right there and write them down. This way it will be 99.999999999 % sure what the measurements are . You could post these specs when you sell the ball. You would be suprised on how many people are real close to each other in span. If the span is ok and you use finger grip, all they have to do is change the grips or thumb slug to fit them.

Usually I just say how many drills are on the ball, and how good of shape the coverstock is in, most people are going to plug the ball anyway. If they ask about the span, then I would find out exactly what the span was. Because some people will have the same span as you, therefore they might just want to switch out the grips, have the thumb reslugged and go.

But like I said, when I first list them, I just say number of drills and number of games on the ball.

On edit : Was typing while Bubba posted, so the first part is basically the same.

Fess up and tell 'em everything. You can't know too much about used bowling balls or someones ex-wife you're fixin' to marry. There's a joke I could use here, but we'll just leave well enough alone for now.

You should at least give the span info. Alot of people are looking to purchase a used ball to try something different or to save money. If they can get away with just changing inserts or resluging or just using tape then they will need a span similar to theres for that purpose.

Some shops charge quite a bit to plug and redrill an entire ball too.

All the info very helpful, I figure in todays world a person word is their most important asset. I never like to mis-lead someone.

I am very confident in my pro shop and your answers help me decide how to properly sell it.

Thanks

I'd just advertise it as first drill and leave it at that. If it's going to someone who knows what's what they'll either factor in a plug and redrill job or, like I've done on a couple of occasions, keep the existing fingerholes and just redo the thumb. I don't think it's necessary to give measurements.
