How does your league run its scoring system?

Our league is thinking of a change.

We play in a league with a 5 man team. Each person plays the opposing player for 8 points total. Game 1,2,3 and total. Each player does this so thats 8 X 5 for 40 points. Then the same is applied to team game and team series meaning that 48 points are available each game.

They want a change, so how would you do the scoring?

The scoring system you are using is a version of the Peterson Point System.

The Peterson Point Scoring System can vary depending on how then league adopts the scoring system . Many scratch leagues around my area use this type of scoring system. Usually the #1 spot bowler will bowl the opposing #1 spot bowler . Whomever wins will win from 1 point to 50 points per 50 pins bowled. The highest Total pinfall for each game will win from 1 to 5 points pergame. Total pinfall for the night between the teams, highest pinfall for team series will win 3 to 7 points.

There many ways to score a game and series. You could just award 1 point for the team wining the game and 4 points for winning total pinfall for the night. It all depends on what scoring system the league wants to adopt.

Our league uses a 7-point system - 2 points per game and 1 point for total pins, this works good and almost always eliminates the 1/2 point for a tie.

Our league is separated into two 2-game blocks, so one point per game, and one point for totals of each set.

6 points per week.

Ours is very similar to yours. We run a 40 point system with 5-man teams. Each position bowls head to head with the opposing position for 1 point per game and 2 points for total pins (25 total individual points). Team totals are also contested. Each team game is worth 4 points and team total is worth 3 (15 total team points).

My scratch league was made up of 4-man teams, so I doubt our system will work for yours, but here was ours:

Game 1: Team total score (1 point)
Game 2: Team A positions 1 & 2 vs Team B 1 & 2 (1 point)
Team A positions 3 & 4 vs Team B 3 & 4 (1 point)
Game 3: Individual Head-to-head matches (1 point each)

Team total series: 2 points

For a total of 9 points possible per week. Game 2 adds a neat twist to just team or individual matches. It's quite fun. Unfortunately, this probably won't work with a 5-man team. Just thought i'd throw the idea out there.

5 man team.

Head to Head is 1 point.
Games are 4 points.
Series is 3 points.

Total of 30 points.

Last time I bowled this type of system it was on a scratch league with 4 members per team. 1 point per person per game and 1 point per team per game and 2 points per person and team for series. Made 25 possible points for the night. We decided on the series being worth more to reward the people/team that performed well for the match.

the scratch league i bowled on was based on 40 points a night for a 4 person team, 4 game format. each individual game and series was worth 1 point each, each team game and team series was worth 4 points each.

the two handicap leagues i bowled used the 7 point system, where a team won 2 points for each game won, and then 1 point for team series.

We use the 7-point system. 2 per game + 1 for series = 7 total points.

I'm still on the old simple 1 point per game, and 1 point for total pins.
4 points a night.

same for our leagues...

Since I accidentally ignored the second question:

If I had to choose the point system, I would do:

(for 3-game sets) 2 points per game, and 3 for totals.

I like the way our system is set up, maybe double the total points (2 per game, 2 for each set total) to avoid any half-points.

I think it would be fun to be in a league where we would use the Johnny Petraglia yacht regatta scoring system. I wonder if FrameworX can be reprogrammed???

Would have to mess with how the lane resets itself also, being where if anything were left on the deck it would have to reset it instead of just pushing it off.

We do 2 points per bowler (#1 vs. #1, etc) and 4 points for team game, and 4 points for the team series. So a 5-man 3-game league is worth 14 points per game and 4 points for series, for 46 points per match. All of the even numbers ensure that there are no half-points, any ties will result in either 1 or 2 points.
