Who uses used balls and if you do how many in your arsenal are used. My Gravity Shift was already drilled once before I got it and my Cherry Vibe was drilled twice. My spare ball is the other one that I got new.....

you must have some sort of hook up because

buying a used ball, plugging, redrill, and grips and slug can get pretty close to the original price you normally might pay for a ball.

Well I guess you can say that. I usually think I paying $60 for redrilling, new pkugs, IT, etc. Yet I only pay $20.

Say I wanted a new ball at my pro-shop a Emerald Vibe for example. $139.99 is the price which included drilling in the fingers and thumbs. It's like an extra $10 if you use the "IT" attachment. Then you also have tax as well. The final total from what I was told is $168.69 for my needs.

When I have gotten used balls, they are priced between $99-$119. Some of the used balls have the "IT" already in it so all I gotta do is plug the fingers and get grips and it's only about $10-$45. Plus I get a 10% discount. But yeah.... confusing.... yes (maybe because of my typing??)

ALl mine are new.

I would buy a used ball IF the span fit me or if it was close enough to just put in a new slug and drill lower or higher... I don't like plugged balls.

Just redrill the fingers? Hope the thumb pitch is correct, not to mention drilling to fit your needs of the ball and PAP. Yes your getting a good deal but you do not have a good driller...

I've learnt it's worth the money to have a proper fit and layout!

As in they plug the finger holes in the used ball and put my finger size/stats or whatever you call it in. Also they do fit my needs when locating where to drill at. Usually I go for a drilling that involves long length and a snap in the backend. That's what usually everyone gets anyways. So everything does fit my needs and has a proper fit. Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. Sorry about that.

(You see it's a pain in the..... when you have to relearn the sport from scratch after bowling wrong for about 10 years so sometimes I don't know hat I'm talking about or what i'm doing :( ) But it's all good

Dang.. My EVibe was $119 Plus tax and $10 for grips.

The prices are jacked up on everything except the used balls. Here are some examples

Hy-Road- $189.99
Second Dimension- $199.99
Black Widow Pearl- $199.99
Cell Pearl- $189.99
Acid- $159.99
Tornado- $79.99
Tropical Storm- $79.99
White Dot- $59.99

The only good thing about this is it counts drilling and I get a 10% discount because I go to the place so many times and it's not just for buying balls (which I hope I don't have to anymore for awhile) but for cleaners and grip sacks. The bad thing about this is the prices are high....... period and tax!

I'm just saying if I took a used ball to my driller and said put new finger holes in it. He would smack me. He would completely plug the ball, then re-drill the thumb and fingers to give me the best lay out according to the ball specks, my PAP and what I want the ball to do. I could see in some case where the thumb hole is in a usable spot but it's not a given. I'm not trying to imply you don't know anything, please don't take offense. I've learnt the hard way that there aren't that many good drillers out there and I would be cautious using anyone who isn't IBPSIA Advance certified (http://www.ibpsia.com/pros.asp).

Assuming these all include inserts, I must be getting really ripped off at my pro-shop. (Tropicals are much higher, Tornados slightly higher, Cell Pearl/Acid/2nd Dimension are 10-20 more). Before the discount I get.

He does give me free surface changes though, which are cool since I don't have a spinner at home and I hate polishing by hand.

Around here, a new high-end ball with all the fixins from a pro shop costs a minimum of $250. That's why I've started going after lightly used single drill balls that are close to my span. With as many used balls on the market as there are, I've even been able to pick my drillingss. My Resurgence, Cell, Raid, and Shift are all used balls. Total cost including shipping and all ball work for these was... lessee... Resurgence $65, Cell $60, Raid $65, Shift $70... ummm.... $260. Four balls for the price of one is pretty darn good in my book. I like to try different balls and just can't rationalize, in this case, $1000 to play around with new bowling balls when there is no way to know how they'll work.

I only buy NIB stuff, I only have 1 ball thats been plugged and it was me that plugged it because I didnt like the first layout, everything else is Single drilled and with less than 75 games on them except my Complete NV. I dont like throwing plugged equipment as Im really picky with how my stuff looks.

I do prefer new equipment, but I will buy used if I can get a good deal. I have a No Mercy in my bag the was used that basically cost the price of drilling and inserts.

I use all NIB balls. Right now I'm getting to newer balls of mine plugged to try a different layout on them since I didn't like how the old guy drilled them for me.

I did pay $153 for a E Vibe grips/slug out the door and $193 for a Playmaker same thing way out the door.

There is one driller that gives a Maintenance card you get, 6 cleaning/polishing, 1 new set of grips, 1 resurface, 1 rejuvinator or Hook Again. It is nice but again I dont like how he drills and he likes to use Vinyl Slugs I hate them. His prices are a little high but if you buy from him you get that card so it works out.

all mine are new except my BV... I bought it on here, same span as me and all i had to do it put a TURBO thumb switchhgrip in it, my pro shop did it for free... the layout was close enough to what i was looking for so i took the deal.

I have a pretty good mix but I get a good deal on plug and redrill from my driller. But I do full replugs no matter who I buy the ball from because pitches are rarely a match.

Thanks for all you inputs about all of this. I may buy a new ball as soon as Hammer releases come out. I know Storm has its new stuff out in the upcoming month but I heard Hammer has about 6 new releases. (idk if that's true, heard from one of the pro shop guys) Of course they aren't gonna release all of them at the same time. I mean you know Hammer. The may release 3 balls at the same time each for a different line (sauce, black widow, raw hammer, etc.) But thats enough on that stuff. Anyways thanks...:D

Just remember its up to you if you want to use a used ball or not. There's nothing wrong with them some people wont touch a used one. If they didn't have a lot of games on them and I new they took care of the balls I wouldn't mind also along with getting a good price on the plug/drill grips and slug along with getting that ball for pretty cheap I think it wouldn't be a bad way to go.

Also depending on what you need the ball to do and fit into your arsenal. If you get it all redone out the door for under $100 with the price of the ball compared to $150-$200 that's a pretty good savings especially if you really don't need to use it a lot. I would just make sure it won't be in your track.

I just had 2 balls redone for $115 plug/drill/grips/slug so I might be looking into this. Since a lot of people are dropping down to 15ib I could get some steals on there 16ibs. I don't like to use new balls too much when practicing I will for the 1st 10-15 games to get a feel for them and get a track but after that League/Tourney only

Most of mine are NIB but I have purchased a few from Idle, though they have had so few games on them they were practically new. I gave two of them to my brother and he has shot a ton with them this past season.

I haven't had the honour of purchasing used bowling balls before. But I have a blemish "Storm El Nino 2000" which was drilled so wrongly! So I use it for experimental purposes. Like cleaning it with window cleaner and see what happens. Hand sand it and see what kind of reaction I get.
But in the near future I want to replace it with a BW Bite pearl or BW venom
maybe even BW pearl! who knows watch this space!

I use 2nd hand balls alot...

total NV was given to me... shot both of my 300's with that and a 298 and mutliple 279's

my 1st and 2nd sling blade was used(i have a brand new one sitting in my cupboard) waiting to be drilled... shot 298 with my first one and multiple 279's

nothing wrong with 2nd hand balls!!
