View Full Version : Strong Wild?

So. I've had the Hawg Wild and Pain for several months now. For me, they are very close in performance. The HW is longer, snappier, and seems to perform slightly better on a fresh pattern. The Pain is stronger, smoother, and seems to perform slightly better on broken down patterns. However, both do well enough on either. Since they are so close for me, and I'm shooting lights out with the Pain, AND I want a ball that fits above the Pain (far above, hopefully). I'm thinking about having my HW redrilled and maybe sanded down into a oil/aggressive ball. I've been looking at the No Mercy, but this option would be a lot cheaper if the HW can get at least reasonably close to the NM's aggressiveness.

My question is how strong can the HW get? My HW presently is drilled pin right of ring finger with the CG in the center of my grip. (I'm a righty, and no, I don't know how to find my PAP.) How much stronger can the HW get with a redrill?

Since the coverstock is about 80% of the balls overall reaction, the change there would be best.

That leaves 20%- Pin length, drilling and core.

You can't change the core or pin length. Plug and redrill would cost over $25 most places. Probably cost $3-10 bucks to sand and polish the coverstock.

My guess would be try 2000 grit, then 1000 grit. Polish to save energy or for more backend. Each time you step down, you should get a earlier roll.

Hope this helps.

Dude, instead of getting a wild and sanding it off the bat, why not get the hawg-zilla which comes very aggressive from the start then you can polish or sand it accordingly.

I sure like mine as the heavy ball (with factory finish).

I already have a Hawg Wild.

I was just wondering if anyone had tried to sand theirs down and what sort of reaction they got out of it. And... If anyone has a stronger drilling than I do what sort of reaction they're getting.

have you looked into the black widow? it is a awesome ball and has a lot of power. I just bought my husband one and he loves it.

Thanks!!!!

You bet. One of my teammates has one and it's a great ball. However, I'm considering taking a ball I already own and reworking it. I don't have the extra cash to put into a new ball right now. The holidays were expensive this year. ;)

Sorry for the miss read. I'd say go for sanding it. I've had much success with every hammer ball I've sanded. My Big Block Diesel was sanded to a 400 matt last year and I used it as my heavy oil ball. Worked great until I got the Zilla so I put the shine back on and it's now filling in nice as a medium ball.

Just a side note I believe Buddies original review on the Hawg Wild said it was a great ball with a bit of sanding off the factor finish.

Let us know how it goes.
