I've heard that it's possible to determine your PAP from the track marks on a ball. Is this true? If true, how do you do it?

True.
Put the ball on a level surface, best to have oil rings on the ball. Place them parallel to the level table. The top of the the ball is the PAP.

Hmm... In that case I imagine it would be best to use a ball that doesn't flare much.
Would you use the first ring on a high flaring ball then?

Where the rings meet, and first flare after that.
