Just wondering if vodka is a good or bad thing to clean bowling ball with.
The supermarket around here has vodka on sell for about $15 for a liter.

Vodka is for your tummy, not your bowling ball.

I have never heard of anyone using alcoholic beverage for cleaning the ball. Like VMS said, stick with regular alcohol for about $1.00 in most stores. A hot water bath with Dawn detergent is even cheaper and does a better job.

....Exactly what I was thinking.
This is just what I heard, not saying its true..
But on the bowling ball the sureface is all pores and its a rouch microscopic prickly surface, its not smooth, Think of that as like teeth the ball uses to bite into the lane for fritcion...
not being said, rubbing alcohol is a very strong stubstance that can damage some things because of how strong it is...like it can be used to remove paint and super glue and other type of stuff...
so if you think once you rub that alcohol on the ball it us rubbing and dulling away those teeth away off the ball, thus weaking the ball.
BUT now some people wonder why proshop guys use it on the ball then, well the use it just to get rid of glue after gluing in grips or something along those lines, not the whole ball...
NOWWW, this could not be true, it's just something I heard that made me turn away from the stuff..

I believe you have confused ispropal alcohol with acetone.

I've used rubbing alcohol/simple green/water mixture for around a year now and have noticed no effect on my bowling balls aside from the normal tracking that occurs with bowling.

Rubbing alcohol is good for cleaning and does not hurt a ball, provided you don't soak your ball in it. Alcohol is good for cleaning the occasional glue or other dirt that can find its way on your ball like a metal to a magnet. The only thing alochol will do to the surface is if you have polished applied to the ball, after using the alcohol to clean the ball it will deminishe the polish .

btw.. unless youre cleaning fiber optic cable, there is no need to use reagent or even 90% isopropyl. regular every day 70% el cheapo alcohol will work well. remember also that acetone is not on the USBC approved list of cleaning agents. :)

But it will do wonders if sniffed. Not that I would condone this in any way or shape.

I know what you mean, I have to clean 40 lanes of approaches with 98% every day.

Like i said its just what I was told from someone else, I can't prove it's right or wrong but it just made me not use the stuff very much..
I just stick with regular powerhouse ball cleaner and hot water baths every so months and get them on the spinner when they need it.

clean and dull for CP which i need to put at 2k instead of 1k now that i keep it dull. and Energizer for Burn, i heard it might add length but so far its consistently great ball so i like the energizer :D I need to find a pattern where my burn doesn't work, so im getting into some tournaments where i would need a more predictable ball.

i wouldnt recommend sniffing it either.. but your body does produce acetone in very small quantities to aid in the breakdown of protiens. :D
