IMthinking about bathing my ball to get out the oil this weekened, its had a good number of games on it and i do priortize taking good care of it since it has to last a good while and it really was costly getting it.
SO i just wonder how hot should the water be? obviously a safe temperature but hot enough to get out the oil, so like as hot as it can come from the sink faucet? or a little less?. Also how should i tape up the holes with? obviously i dont want to dmg the ball or make some sticky marks left by the tape, so like what duck tape? black eletrical tape or what?
I just want to make sure i dothis as right as i can and stuff, im also not sure if i should really use any sort of cleaner while bathing it.
I do have a ball cleaner for the balls i have and been using it after every session likei should.

The water from your sink is fine, and as far as the taping of the the hole goes it is not necessary because water will get in and you wi have that residue from the tape left over on your ball.I don't tape the holes,so maybe the people that do can give there experiences in dealing with the tape issues.

As hot as your tap water comes out is fine.
No tape. Not needed.
As for cleaner, a tablespoon of Dawn dishwashing liguid is good. I put that in the 2nd round of bathing. In other words, put the ball in the water one time (15 minutes tops), then take it out, wipe it off, dump the water, re-fill with more hot water then put in the Dawn. Sit another 15 minutes; take the ball out; wipe off; dump the water; re-fill; repeat as many more times as needed but with no more Dawn. Make sense?
I've done this numerous times with my BWS and it works great. The first time I bathed it, it took about 12 buckets of water before oil stopped coming out.

Every 50-60 games, I bathe my Sauce, don't tape the holes, and it takes 12-13 buckets worth of hot tap water to get oil to stop coming out. I use a chamois on a stick to wipe the ball while it's submerged, in case oil is beading on the surface and not floating to the top. I haven't used Dawn, but I may start on the next bath. Get yourself a 5 gallon bucket at any hardware store (I found mine at a Giant Food!) start with the thumb hole flush with the bottom of the bucket, and turn the ball a quarter turn each re-fill. Since oil floats to the top of the bucket, I just add fresh hot water to the bucket, and let the oil run out of the top when it overflows. Hope this helps!

I guess I should go ahead and post some of my test results. I've been sitting on them for weeks now because I havent had the time or resources to complete the other tests I want to do. I will make a thread with this information later today.
Until then, I recommend you read the big thread regarding bathing your bowling balls. I dont have the link handy since I'm on my phone atm but a quick search should bring it up or one of the other guys here can probably post a link to it. Also there is some good info in my thread 'My Black Widow Shooting Her Web' under the Misc section including a bathing method recommended by one of the ball manufacturers.
One thing I will say... water logging is a myth! And I have the test results to prove it. Stay tuned...

The other thing I do is when I have the Dawn in the bucket I take a Scotch Bright pad and scuff the surface a bit.

Just be very careful when doing this... a Green Scotch Brite pad is about the equivalent of 1000 abralon. using the pad too much may unevenly resurface the ball... and you may not like that all too much unless you go and get it resurfaced afterwards at ur pro shop.

Not a myth. It's happened to me. It wasn't a figment of my imagination. The ball was clearly double the weight or more from when I started. Whether it be from a defect in the ball, a crack, etc.- it's still possible, however minute the possibility. I checked the ball for visible cracks etc, nothing. It hasn't happened to me since- but it did happen, so to say it's a myth is short sighted.

I hope you weren't throwing 16lbs at the time that could give you a hernia 32+ lb ball......

15 pounder...it was a surprise when I lifted it out of the water. Sort of the opposite effect of lifting an empty suitcase that you think is full...
