I went to 15 lbs a few years back to save this old arm some wear and tear. I didn't notice any difference as far as performance. A friend talked me into a 14 lb ball about 3 years ago, and said it would hit the same due to a more aggressive cover. That worked well for him...a high rev cranker, but not for me...a med rev stroker. I left so many washouts it wasn't funny. I went back to 15 lbs and converted to Hammer equipment. Best move I ever made. Guess what I'm saying is, I wouldn't go 14 if I were you. I would also keep the weight consistent for all your balls. I'm no pro, so lets see what others say. Later.

I have half my equipment at 14 and half at 15. My first strike ball and spare ball are 14 (maxim and Blade pearl) My other two strike balls are 15 (big block and zilla). I moved to 15 after I attending a Hammer demo day and they where only showcasing 15 pound balls.

The transition from 14 to 15 was fairly easy although some times you feel it in the 4th game. I think my next ball will be 14 as I can stay accurate longer with it.

So going form 15 to 14 you shouldn't notice too much different, except slightly less where and tear on your body and the 14s usually have a higher diff, but you will probably throw it slightly faster.

I have been throwing 14's for about a year now and have gotten my average to 190. That is not bad for an old guy. My arm dosen't get tired and the consistancy is better. I know guys that throw 15 & 16 #'s and the 14 I throw hits just as hard. As for the 14/15 thing, I wouldn't,but that is only my opinion. I would think that it would be really different throwing different weights.:)

I bowled with a 15lb for about 1 year and when i bought my first hammer ball (black widow) i decided i wanted a 14lb. My 14lb widow hits just as harder or harder then my 15lb i was throwing. I seem to be able to throw the ball harder with alot of rev's on it to make it smack hard.

Back in my younger days, I threw 16 lb balls. But with the increase in technology, making it easier to hook the ball, I was able to go down to 15lb balls.

Now, 15 is all that I throw. This has helped with my consistency and I get every bit as much (if not more) pin action than ever.

I don't know if I'd consider going down to 14 lbs until I get too old for 15.

I also would be leary about having differently weighted balls. I like all of my bowling balls to feel the same. So, I get the same weight for spare and strike balls. I also get slugs for all of my thumb holes and the same types of oval grips .

This way, each ball feels the same in my hand.

If going to be differnet if you go down in weight in the middle of a set/series. But you'll throw it faster and more with rev's from what I've heard and seen. I!4-16lbs share the same weight block, so it okay to throw 14's for a high level bowler. I'd imagine that there are several pro throwning 14's and 15's.

I say go for it.
