I see lots of posts for great games, 300's, 279's, etc, etc...all great games but very few people ever finish up with the set they throw. Its great to have the big game, its great to be on top of the world, but did the wheels come off the cart for the other 2 games? I love the big game as much as the next guy, but what I have learned is the game is important but its the set that really matters (to me anyway).....what do you think? would you rather throw one big game or 3 solid games, or think of it this way would you rather shoot 300 or have a 900 set? what has more weight for you and why? As I said its the set for me, I have the crossed the 800 level and had several nights in the 790's that is what to me really matters...as we say on our team...its the bottom right hand corner that matters. what do u say?

I think the obvious would be to shoot a very solid set. There is nothing more gratifying than finding your line and hitting it for 3 games solid. It helps your avg. and the team. There is nothing worse than shooting a high 200 and then slipping and throwing a 150, it hurts mentally and I think this game is alot more mental than physical. Sure shooting a 279 is awesome but if you can stay in the low/mid 2w's after that that would boost your game/confidence to a new level.
good post!

You can't shoot a 790 or 800 without monster games. An 800 is a 266.66 average.
When I got my 300 it was in the 1st game and of course the rest of the night I was scrambling to get the set above 800. Other people I was bowling around kept on giving me updates of what I needed to get my 800. My series fell short and was my highest ever 766 (300, 244, 222).
I think winning each game is the most important thing and everything else are just milestones. Of course the milestones are are what you remember over time. I stopped counting 600s a while ago. I remember in 2005 when I was looking up at getting my first 600 (as an adult). Now I count my 700s. Still not very many (3). But hey, not bad for a 188 book average.

well to me i would just like that first 300 then i would start worrying about great sets. but still would say sets is more important its the consistency that matters even tho i want that first 300 really really bad....have been close alot of times now

Although I would really like to get my first 300, i would love that to be a part of an 800 series. You think about a 900 series and thats ultimate perfection but, is it a reachable goal? I don't think i'll ever do it so for me 800 is my perfection. all in all I say series is important!

THINKS HIGH GAME IS BETTER THEN CONSISTANT SERIES CAN'T BE ON TEAM,BUT ITS NICE TO SEE POST OF HI GAME,EVEN IF ITS 1,2 OR MORE,I THINK WE ALL LOVE TO BE THAT GOOD, BUT I NOT THERE YET,TO ANSWER ? SET.

I think the set is by far more important. I bowled my first 600 this season and my high game was a 242. That is my highest game in league so far and I cared about getting to 600 more than my high game. The week after that my buddy bowled a 252 and ended up with a 580 series. Second game dropped from a 252 to a 154 so I think a series is much more important.

A good series is important, and having that big game is also very satisfying. But, the most important things, whether you're doing good or not, is to have fun and enjoy the company of your fellow bowlers....

A big game is great, but I'm more disappointed if I have a low series. My goal is more consisency, especially in a handicap league where bowling below your average can hurt your team.

I think it depends on where you are at in bowling.
I'll never forget the first league night that I threw a 200 game. In fact, I threw 2 of them, but my third game was like a 148 or something. I ended up with a 599 series.
So, despite getting a 600 series, I still rolled my two highest competitive games ever. For me, that first game (which was a really high score) meant the world and allowed me to knock off at least one of my goals.
Then this year in leauge during my return, a very similar thing happened and I rolled a 599.
Last week was my first 600 series since my return and my first game was a 247. My low game was still a 189, so I was above my average.
I think once I become more consistent, I won't be happy unless all of my games are over 200, but for now, I have yet to throw three 200 games on league night.
Now, for the better rollers, I think the answer is obviously three very solid games totalling a great series.

Love high games for the thrill... nothing beats throw 8-11 striking in a row.
Had the Front 9, Middle 10 and Back 10... all in 06 (278, 289 and 267). Have not got a 300. But the night I got my 289, had clean 30, shot 244-289-224 757 series. My first sancationed 700. But twice I have thrown 11 across 2 games, that was awesome.
I think the Set is what matter most. To keep going because that games is over and like it was stated you want that game from the bottom right hand corner... total pins.
Another I have enjoyed is when the team gets on fire and shots 800 team game. Bowl a mixed league 2 and 2... girls average 165-170, in first two positions, third bowlers averages 200+ and I been down around below 180, but been getting close to 185-190... finally starting to shoot good. But when the teams fires a game over 800, what a rush. Just to know everybody shoot good together, even if that means a person just covered average.

3 game series is always the most important. Since I have already accomplished my 300, I'm shooting for an 800 series next. I rather have 3 straight 200 games for a 600 series than a 300 game with back to back 150's. The sad thing is, when I bowled my 300 game, we lost that game, and I'm in a handicap league. The team I bowled against had 3 out of 4 bowlers shoot 30 to 60 pins over average, so that helped them out.

A BIG game is always a thrill,,,,, but I personally strive for consistency.... From my experience, being able to shoot a solid series week in and week out, seems to be of more benefit to your' team's chances of winning on a regular basis.

The league I bowl in uses the Peterson point system. So games are just as important as series, but I think bowling a good set feels better to me than just a good game. It feels pretty good to throw an off game 160 or so and then still get a 600.

I would rather bowl 3 above avg. games, than one way over average. I think it helps the team more. I'd rather win 3 games than just one. Plus I get in brackets. So I gotta bowl 3 good games to win a little $$$.
Good Bowling to all.

Tonight in my league there was a guy who changed his name on the computer to Mr 300. He bowled a 300 two weeks ago and perhaps is seeking to get a legal name change.:D
Anyway. Tonight he had a 270 game, and 250 game and started the 3rd with front nine. I watched his first shot in the 10th frame and he only got 7 on first ball and ended night with 799. I never saw someone go from so happy to so miserable in about 30 seconds.
Missing the truly large series turned Mister 300 into Mister just missed 800.

I did that when I had my 797. The last game I had to bowl 244, which would have been my low game for the night. Needless to say, it didn't happen. Still waiting for the 800.

It sounds like to me he doesnt deserve an 800, being as cocky as he is. I'll admit when I got my 300 a few weeks back, I was joking around with my little brother, who goes with me every Wednesday and witnessed it, that I was gonna make a shirt saying, "Mr Perfect on it, and have a big 300 with 12 X's on it, but that was with him only, I wouldnt ever be that cocky, unless maybe my avg was like 240 and I had over 10 300's, LOL. It just sucks because since the 300, and the 212 and 200 that followed it, my last 2 weeks scores have been, 166, 169, 199, 177, 189, and 127. I'm very disappointed in myself and hope to report way better scores tomorrow night as league is at 7pm tomorrow, or Wednesday night.

Wanna Talk about frustration????? Try Shooting back to back 258's in a series only to close out with a 190!!!! But since it was my first series with No Mercy #3 for me I suppose that is not too bad. Where I bowl, the shot is playable if you can read the breakpoint of your ball properly, the only advice I can offer you Hawgzilla Owner #1 is get back in the saddle, You and I both know that you are capable of shooting in the 200's consistently!! Just remember to watch for that carrydown at the barn!!!!

Your right, you really are, I dont know WTF my problem is, shot a 528 tonight with the last game only being a best of 184 on the night. So the last 3 weeks since the 300 game and 712 series, I havent broke 200's. Carrydown, LOL, it seems like towards the end of game 2 and all of game 3, the ball just dont like to come back, so I move over from where I normally start, and it helps kinda, but its too late to do anything. In practice, I had 5 out of 6 strikes and left a 10 pin for the other one. Started game 1 off with X, X, X, 9/, X, 8/, then all hell broke loose and finished 3 of last 4 frames with splits and they were opens. I'm really disappointed with myself, I feel like I'm letting my team down and my avg was at 198 after the 712 series, now after this week, its going down into the 193's which is only 5 pins higher than what I finished with in the Summer league, and I was using two shitty ass mid 90's balls that were $3 and $10 from an alley and the goodwill store. Rather it be the mental game, or the fact that I suck, I dont have a clue. I feel like I'm making the right shots and adjustments as the game progresses, but I cant ever exceed and overcome the downfall of whats been going on. If I cant improve dramatically next week, I might just call it quits for awhile and practice as much as I can.

Its best to get a good set better than getting one good game..The most important thing is getting better consistency with your shot and relax and have fun.. This game is more mental than physical so the more you think when u get ready to shot the more you are prone to error.....This past Tues i set my career high series with a 836...I was relax and didnt about a 800, I just wanted my team to win because the other team was really good. So just relax and have fun and trust me your game will get alot better..
I only had my widow for 4 weeks now and ive shot 4 700's and 1 800..I love this freakin ball
stats
avg 217
high game 299
high series 836 268, 279, 289

I believe having a strong set is important. Most people shoot their high games w/an ok set. When you shoot a great set, it shows your under control w/ your emotions and can just bowl. 2 weeks ago, some kid shoot 300, but ended up with 575. I shot in the 200+ all my games. Which looks better now?
