I was reading on another post that span can effect the pain level of the ring finger....My problem is that I'm not experiencing pain in the ring finger but in the middle finger...any ideas? Could span cause this problem as well? The pain only seems to be right after I bowl and last for probably a couple hours after...but it's pain! hahaha thanks for your help guys and gals!

I have a knot on the first knuckle of my middle finger, I'm pretty sure its from constantly hitting it on things at work and jamming it, but it might be arthritis related. Either way, once I got this it would hurt a lot when I bowled, I went to my driller and now I use a decent amount of reverse in that (3/4 I think) finger hole and it hasn't bothered me in a while.

Not sure if this will help at all, but I already typed it out. Either way I would get your hand remeasured by someone because it shouldn't hurt anywhere while bowling.

The distal articulation of the third metacarpal phalange. :-D Is that better? hahaha it's right at the major knuckle....knuckle in the middle of the finger and around there...

It may be span, pitch or just the fact you use the finger a lot to get lift on the ball. My middle finger isn't straight anymore,(curves towards the ring finger) from all the bowling I've done. I'd get the fit on your gear rechecked and if that isn't the problem then it's off to see the Doc.

It sounds like a pitch problem from what I can gather. It sounds like there is a long of pressure on your fingers (as in you're gripping with them, or at least that is what I can figure) and it would be causing this type of pain.

One last thing, does the pain run down into your wrist or forearm, or is it just in your knuckle?

I have to agree with the above. It sure sounds to me like it is a pitch problem. Like Rowdy said, get your grip rechecked and see if anything can be done .

Blister,

It is only in the knuckle. It does stretch down the forearm thankfully. That's the first thing I thought of too!

Only the knuckle hurts? I'm gonna bet on the span to that finger being a touch off. And it'll be that the span is too short, causing that finger to grip the ball harder.

Hey all, just wanted to let you know that my span is WAY off apparently...my first driller was a complete a** apparently and my newly TRUSTED driller is hookin' (no pun intended) me up! Thanks for the advice guys!

So I found out the exact amount the ball was off....it was 1/64 of an inch! I can't believe such a small numerical value could cause such problems!

They generally say alot of people don't feel something off that much, but I know I've had stuff fixed for a 1/16 or 1/32... which isn't much either.

I've had pitch issues, as well. Do you have any finger nail issues or finger flexibility issues?

He tested my finger flexibility when I was there and said that I was fine...I'm a nail biter so nails aren't a problem either....:-/
