so after cleaning my balls with power house cleaning today(getting ready for tonight) i notice that both my venom and sauce have a slight hair line crack were the fingers are drilled and the crack curves with the finger holes...

what causes this? what can i do to prevent it from happening to future new balls.

If this crack goes from fingerhole to fingerhole the bridge is cracked. That comes from drilling the fingerholes too close together. There is a minumum thickness the bridge is supposed to be,but some drillers think thats optional. You can roll the ball the way it is,but expect it to come back up the ball return one day with a piece missing out of it. It's one of those,"When it'll break, not if it'll break",deals.

If you want to fix it,you'll have to drill the bridge down past the deepest part of the crack, plug the entire area,(fingerholes and all),and then redrill the fingerholes.

Bull.....

Bridges only crack when the ball is drilled wrong. 5/8 of an inch is,I believe, the minumum thickness the bridge is supposed to be. I'm trying to remember what Brian Graham told me it was when I had the same problem with my first BWS and the bridge cracked on it. I do remember he told me that a properly drilled ball should never crack the bridge.

The recommended width of a bridge is 3/16" to 3/8"

The majority of the bridges I drill are the width of the center rib of a prosect

I do have a couple of higher level bowlers that want narrower bridges

The crack you are talking about from your description are stress cracks, a couple of reasons they develop are

1. Lack of bevel on the finger holes. even with inserts the sharp edge needs to be hit with the sander to take the sharpness off.

2. Super Glue. Too much is a bad thing and can cause a chemical reaction with the coverstock which starts the cracking.
