Anyone have any experience with Sport Shot pattern? Today was my first experience with it. That was something. Today was the local rolloff for the ESPN skin's game qualifier.

I am not getting the all expenses paid travel to Las Vegas or a chance for the $250,000 in prize money.

Everyone in my group (book averages between 180-189) had major trouble getting to pocket consistently. I think I had the most strikes in the group but probably came in 2nd or 3rd out of 4 in the skins format. For any chance to go to Vegas I needed to win the group.

My inquiry is for those who play on that pattern is what ball do you use? What line do you use?

I didn't even know what you meant, but I looked it up and it's basically the typical house shot but with tapered oil that is regulated as to how much oil is used.

The link says it forces you to be more accurate. I would think you'd still want to play your normal equipment and line, it's just that if you miss outside, the ball won't come back and vice versa.

Now, granted, I would estimate that I have medium revs and medium ball speed ( a tweener per say), but I roll the ball with a lot of hook. I carry about a 185 at my local house and have not had much tournament experience. That being said, I bowled a New Year's Day tournament with a sport shot in a basically new house to me. I started with the NM and threw my favorite line (stand 27, throw at 15 and then out to about 7). The ball never made it back to the pocket when I was warming up. So, I made a big move. I stood 20 and threw at 12, out to 8 and killed the pocket. I played this line for 2 games, then the NM started getting jumpy on that line. Instead of finding a new line right in the middle of the tournament, I switched to the BW, and played the same line for the rest of the day. I maybe moved one or two boards for the remainder of the games. When the lanes started drying out for the big crankers, I still had a great line and ended up placing third overall. I don't know if this will help, but at least it gives you some info....

There seemed to be heavy oil all the way across the lane and just about all the way to the pins. Like it said in that Michigan Bowling post, when I hit my target with the speed I wanted and a good follow through the ball hit the pocket and I, for the most part, got a strike. When I missed to the right even a little bit it would not come back and when I missed to the left I would hit on nose or go Brooklyn.

Interstingly, to me, I could not do anything around second arrow. I was forced to play more toward middle and played from 27 with right foot and aimed at 15 with target. I had to pretty much play square up the third arrow because once it started toward 13---> I was dead.

It would be fun to find a league that uses that pattern. You really have to be precise with mechanics or can have lots of spare shots with head pin involved.

I tried the 20 to 12 and it did not work. But I kind of gave up on it because of time limitations in pregame warmups. The 20 to 12 line is very often my first line on regular league nights when I find lots of oil.

Looks like you and I start off just the opposite. It's amazing what works and what doesn't for different bowlers. Sorry I couldn't help ya out more...

Played at another house today for No tap tournament. This is the house where there is OB right of 9 board The lanes are also pretty oily in general. I was throwing my No Mercy and bowled 212, then I tried BW and bowled 213, then tried Ebonite Ice and bowled 210. I just could not put a a big score together.

I made it to roll-off portion of this 9 person tournament coming in 5th. In the first game of roll off I bowled another 213 with the BW and lost to a 70ish year old woman who throws a Betty Boop ball who was able to add 76 or so pins to her 153 game.  Anyhow, she eliminated me from the tournament. The other 3 bowlers beat me scratch.

This may be my darkest bowling hour.:o
