Redman was there a sudden temperature change? Is it in front of the window on the ball rack? A change from hot to cold can be one cause for a crack.

You have to rotate them or else they will crack. I rotate all my balls atleast once a week. That way they wont crack, if they just sit there for a long time not moving, they will crack.

Ummm......I've got bowling balls that haven't moved for up to 4 years and I've never had one crack. I've never even heard of having to "rotate" balls. If this theory holds water then every ball that's sat in a warehouse would be cracked right out of the box.
There's got to be something else that caused Redman's ball to crack. Somebody dropped it and didn't tell him, maybe.
What we really need to know is where the crack goes on the ball.

The first time this happened to me I wonder what had happened and I noticed that the sun shining through the window hit the broken ball directly when coming through the window. Check for that, if it is not that then I ask is it on an outside wall or near a heat register???? If all seems well I would just chalk it up to bad luck.......

There was even articles about having to do this but I totally forget where I saw them, a lot of people on here say the same thing. That you have to rotate them or they are more prone to cracking, not guaranteed they will crack, but they are more prone to it. Its from gravity and pressure pushing down on the same spot of the ball for so long. They say if you rotate them and negate that pressure, then there is a lesser chance of them cracking.

They for sure arent in any direct sunlight or near a ac vent. The crack goes from 7 o'clock on the middle finger all the way around to 1 o'clock on the ring finger.Ive had this one since they first came out so i dont think the warrenty would be honored.I did have a crack in the bridge on my psycho that i had to have plugged and redrilled but never had one cracked around the ball completely.Luckily i still have one good bws left.

I don't know where you live, but how about heat??? I've seen balls get shipped in the winter and they're like a block of ice when they show up,even here in South Carolina. The guy that drills my stuff won't even bring a shipped ball into his shop to drill until it's sat for a week to thaw out.
If the ball sits near an outside wall when the temp went down and then somebody cranked the heat, that could be the answer.

I live in central florida so i dont use the heat very much here.My ball rack is on an inside wall about 1 foot from the wall.Im lucky enough to know a pro shop owner who gives me balls with drilling a little cheaper than it would cost if i bought a ball off the internet and had him drill it.

Sounds like the ball got smacked somewhere along the line. Ball return, teammate dropped it and didn't tell you, rolled around in the trunk of the car,or there was a crack off of one of the finger holes you never saw. That last one comes from my driller.

The thing is i havent used it in a good while because i was rolling my other bws with good luck.Has anyone pulled a cracked ball apart to check out the core and if so was it that hard to get apart? It would be cool to have an exposed gas mask core but it seams like it would be a pain to get the core out of the ball in one piece.

i had my cherry vibe crack about a week ago i just pulled it out for league and it was cracked all the way around. So my friends and i took a skil saw and cut it in half it was cool but a gas mask core would be sweet.

Nothing to it. You've already done the hard work on the coverstock. Pry the cover off the ball and chip away the filler around the core. Viola! One Gas Mask Core, suitable for framing or it makes a wonderful holiday gift for that picky league bowler on your list.

I've heard the same thing about having to rotate the ball balls that have been sitting. Had one crack in my garage on a shelf, not against an outside wall, sitting on a ball cup.
Have a friend that works at the local distributor, he has seen cracked balls at the warehouse. (he also works in a Proshop) Some bowling balls are more proned to cracking then others, ex. Track Rule.

never had any crack on me yet. Not around the pin, not around the bridge, not form a weight or thumb hole, not from a chip. Guess I am just lucky.
Though I know many people that have had balls crack from just sitting there. I have also seen them come in a box from factory cracked. Sometimes it just happens.
