Last night game 2 - had the right grove going except for a couple of blips:

started with a double
then solid 10 (miss) - lost focus on spare
then a 5 bagger
Greek Church (picked up 3 of the 5) - not enough ball speed to hold the line, hence I went through the nose
then struck out

final score - 228

10 strikes, 1 miss and 1 split - what could have been....

How about you - ever thought that your final score should have been higher given the amount of strikes you threw??

My last game of my practice session on Sunday. 5 strikes and 5 9 opens. I could not make a spare for the life of me that game. Funny thing is I had not missed a spare all day until that game. After the second miss I got frustrated and knew it was over when the other 3 spare opportunities came.

I have had nights that I struck often but could not make a spare for the life of me.

Then I also have had nights when I threw so well and felt like I shot 800 and only had a high 500.

It gets frustrating especially when you areb throwing the ball the best you ever have and have nothing to show for it because the pins did not co-operate.

I know what you mean. But for me last night was one of the blow up crap nights. 179, 174, 156, 129. We where bowling the wall which used to effect my a few years ago, but the night started with a strike, gutter/spare against the wall then I proceeded to pull the next 7 shots in a row on that wall lane. Spare shooting wasn't too bad on non splits, only missed one in the first 3 games but opened 4 in the last game. Not to mention 6 splits with two of them being the 7-10. But I'm not complaining, I did take some positives, hit all my 10 pins. I was able to find new lines fairly quickly, but I think my bigger issue was I brought all 4 strike balls and threw all of them. In stead of sticking with a ball and line and making micro adjustments I was switching balls and making whole sale changes but never kept on top the the lanes transitioning. I also think my ego doesn't believe in carry down, it's hard to think after moving left so much you can actually move right again with the carry down...

Anyway after I was so disgusted I practiced 3 more games 184 then played 9 holes of golf (7/9 clean pick of the 10 with 1 that missed and 2 clean picks of the 7 with 2 that would half missed) then threw a 257. After that I was just open bowling, forcing balls over different parts of the lanes and playing different hand positions. But picking up damn near ever spare left behind.

So crap league night followed up with one of my bet practice sessions ever, I'm ready for league next week!

Try 3 games of absolutly crushing the pocket and every shot left either a 7 or 10 pin. 30 continuous frames of agony. What should have been a high 700,low 800 night turned into a barely 600 night. Makes you want to weep.....

Have definately had those nights where the corner pins wouldnt fall, where it could have easily been 800 or high 7 and because of all the corners, would turn out to be a low to mid 6.

Also have been a lot of nights where it seemed like if I didnt strike, I would leave a split. A lot of 10 strike, 220's-30's on nights like this. There was 1 night last year where I didnt make a spare and had 680, that night hurt for a long time, was either strike or split and missed 1 7 pin.

Yeah, like the past 2 weeks. The first was a 606 which should have been 650 or higher. I had a five bagger going into the tenth in game one, missed my mark a shade and came in high leaving a 6-7-10 to get a score of a 232. To start the second game, first frame left 6-7-10 again got pissy went spare, hole, hole, hole and finished with 162, and the rest is history.

The second was a 645 that could have been more, in game 3 I had started the game with 3 strike and then the worst thing I have ever seen happen to a teamate struck. Our friend had a heart attack at the lanes and what seened an eternity of watching EMS people tend to him I got up and chucked it in the gutter, I spared and bowled good but with out that gutter score could have been higher, but of course I really did not want to bowl anymore due to my friend being taken away in an ambulance. He passed away the next day and for the rest of the year it will be tough sledding at the lanes.....

My condolences on your loss of a friend.
The league that I bowl in has many elderly members and one lady passed away earlier in the year (not at the lanes though). As a group, we just remember/celebrate the good times we had with her - it helps.

my condolences on the loss of your friend. my teammates and I lost one of our members a couple of years ago. we bowl for the American Legion, of which he was a member and took a vote and donated his share of the prize fund that year to them in his memory. I still miss the guy, was great to bowl with.
