View Full Version : What's your dry ball?

So I'm using a super polished hawgzilla for my dry lanes ball (or weakest ball in my line above the plastic spare ball).

I'm curious what everyone else uses?

Looking at the hammer line up I know the razor is their long ball, but what about the vibes or Burn? How about the columbia Freeze or tropical storm? I think I might want to switch to a urethane ball for spares so I could try and hook it in dry as well (never thrown urethane but I'm curious) ...

Dry gets the polished BWS,the polished N'Sane LevRG or the polished Big Blue Pearl. And a huge move way outside. Like somewhere in the 2-5 board neighborhood.

I throw an Polished Ebonite Lanebreaker drilled like this.

Sorry for the crappy Paint pic. Ball goes LONG and makes a nice smooth arc to the pocket. As for the Razyr, it hooks a lot more than advertised on the backend. Urethane would be good for dry, but not for corner pins unless you plan on changing your release to shoot at a right side pin. If the lanes are even a little dry the urethane will read the lane early and want to hook, where plastic would slide more.

I use a razor for dry lanes and corner pins.

For those really burnt lanes which are usually at some tournaments around here , I use my BWC or my Blck / Red Razyr with extender polish added to the surface.

I've learn to throw my strait spares with 0 hook (broken writs 0 axis and tilt). So for spares I could throw any ball, I choose not to throw my strike balls (for strait shots) as it's less ware and tear. So I was thinking something like a urethane ball might be great to play up the 5 or 10 when the lanes are dry, maybe throw it strait for spares and I could use it for the spares that need a little hook like the 3,6,9,10.

razyr and an old burg hammer. some might laugh but, it gets the job done. I love my razyr and i can use it for dry or oily lanes. It goes straight for miles and then BAM!!!!!! right in the pocket. The razyr works good for the lefties

That would work then. I had to ask because a lot of people chose to throw both there strike and spare ball with the same release. It would work for what your looking for, and can take the wear and tear better than a reactive or plastic ball. I would give the Storm Natural a hard look, is a great urethane ball with a little modern twist.

When the lanes are dry I pull out my Pink Hammer. Works like a charm.

I have my Emerald Vibe which is basically new since we never see burned up lanes here.

Darn it. You trump me. When lanes are dry I pull out my Blue Pearl Hammer! Looking for another one, though, as it's a true 16lb ball, and I'd love a 15lb.

Toasted Lanes? I have a Faball Black Hammer that I throw. I also have a Faball Red Pearl Hammer, but I'd need to get it redrilled for my slightly shorter span. ;)

I use a Hammer Black Widow CLear spare ball and can release it with the same release as my strike ball. Even on "toast" lanes it holds the line and does great.

I'll bet if you made a "Fried Raw Hammer", that would do the trick. Use the current Raw Hammer core which revvs up nicely, and put a Pearl Urethane coverstock on it. That would be the ticket for dry lanes...

I just figured the answer to this question out last night. For the past 3 weeks I've been starting Virtual Gravity first game and move to my double agent with a rico drill the last two games and experiencing way over hooking the third game, lanes have been like that piece of toast you forgot about and left the toaster on too high..... HORRIBLY dry! Anyway last night I'm looking through all my stuff that is sitting at home and I see my Lane1 Liberator that I haven't used in forever, and decide to take it, third game switch to it and wow..... what a ball for dry lanes I went X X (7)2 X X X X X X XXX for a 265 I actually took one of my balls out of my bag to put this one in there because it was great for toasted lanes.

I use my old Blue Urethane Hammer.

It will usually start up pretty early though, so I just throw it harder.
