So have some extra money laying around and usually i save up for things, but i have nothing i really need now. I just bought new shoes, new bags, and a jigsaw. So i was thinking about a ball spinner. I usually take it to my pro shop for him to get done, but does anyone have their own personal spinner? Is it worth having? I think it would be nice to clean and make surface adjustments to your balls, especially since i bowl in college.

And does anyone have any certain brands they recommend or don't recommend?

I want one, but I dont have one as of yet. I get mine done for free so no need right now.

But I definately think its worth having to keep up on maintenence with your equipment and if you want to try different grits on balls, its a lot cheaper to do it yourself on your spinner than have your pro shop do it over and over.

Innovative and Jayhawk are the way to go. The Innovative on you put up is a very good spinner for the price.

Spend the extra dough for the 1/2 hp model. And remember, you're gonna need some kind of cabinet to go with it.

To me its not worth it. Those things are soo over priced, that unless u change surfaces and stuff often, u wont get ur moneys worth and even then its not much until a good period of time.

Having your own ball spinner is a plus. You can do your own surface adjustments as oftne and the way ou want them done. This way you know how it is being done. I hvae my own and I bought the PowerHouse ball spinner. It's 1/3 hp. and does a very very nice job.

is it a big deal to get the two different speeds?

Also is there something online to read up on all the meanings of the different grits in abralon pads and stuff? Because i want to educate myself on them first before making a purchase

Have a Jayhawk, which I've had no issue to date. (They cost more than that Innovative, they have some spinner for about the same price.) Considered the Power House Ball Spinner.

When Polishing remember to use water.

Here is what I put my spinner in to contain some of the mess.

Bought it from a local plumbing supply house, had more depth and was a little more sturdy. Use a bucket to catch my water, use 1-Liter Bottle as my water source.

Alot of stuff I have acquired overtime.

Here is a decent link for Abralon: (Never bought here, but a member have and liked the price and service.)

I have an Innovative Table Top Dual Speed Ball spinner (http://www.shop.innovativebowling.com/product.sc;jsessionid=E52F19188E1E4C8B5126DA79D054 FE60.qscstrfrnt02?productId=346&categoryId=104). It was pricey, but after doing some research, I decided to spend the extra cash for a quality spinner. I also bought a utility tub, which helps keep most of the stuff from spraying all over the place. I do plan to replace the tub, since it's not as deep. I also use a bucket underneath to catch the excess water.

I use the Surface Management Tool (http://www.polishyourball.com/), which helps me sand evenly. I buy my abralon pads on Ebay. And I use an empty spray bottle to spray water on the ball. I also have an apron, so I don't mess up my clothes.

The ball spinner has helped me out allot. I can tweak the ball by sanding up/down and/or adding polish. I found my plastic spare ball starting to hook, so I sanded and then polished it, which made it look practically brand new. I've also made a little money on the side by resurfacing friend's bowling balls.

After asking for suggestions on here about a year ago I purchased the vertex ball spinner a couldn't be happier. I use a plastic tub that I purchased from k-mart to store the spinner in, and there is no mess. The tub is about 4-5 inches higher than the spinner and I place it on a table I have down in the basement.........no mess with polish and dust. Everything stays in the tub. The spinner has helped me perfect my game in more ways than I could have imagined................well worth the purchase!!

Is a tub needed? I watch my pro shop guy use his spinner a lot and his is just on a work bench and there really is no splatter. He puts the polish or cleaning solution on a towel, then he puts it on the ball. Same thing with the water...on a towel then ball. So there isn't really any splatter. I guess when sanding you will get dust flying up too though

If your going to use water while sanding then yes a tub is nice.

It can be a cheap Rubmaid Tub.

My tub is pretty dirty, wish I would not have just wiped some of the crap out of the tub.

I have had a spinner for 2 years now...Its a Donkee 1/3hp and I love it!!! I can clean and alter my equip weekly. http://www.donkee.com/

I also want to add that for me, I have yet to need to use water...I use ball cleaner, and Powerhouse polish along with the Abralon pads...I have 1000, 2000 and 4000 abralon, and if needing a coarser grit...I use scotchbrite pads...green and grey...

If you are always cleaning gear, and want to play with the cover a little, a spinner is a must!!!

Just as a ideal of how stuff accumulates...

Abralon have 16 4000 pads left in my box and a mixed box of 500 and 1000 pads.
Valentino's Sanding Disc's 1500,2000, 2500 and 3000.
Mirka Scuff Pads Burgandy and Grey
3M Scuff Pads Green, Gold, White and Blue Kitchen Pad
Cleaner's Power House Energizer, Power Wash and Clean Dull. Valentino's Remedy RX and Resurrection. Black Magic Rejuventor and Ultimate Ultra Clean Gel Cleaner and Brunswick Remove All.
Polishes Power House Particle Polish and Factory Finish and Valentino's Snake Oil.

Would like to try the Lane Master Cleaner, Brunswicks Micro Pads (depending on price) and Zapp It Cleaner.

Have a draw full of Microfiber Towels, bunch of cheap Scott's Shop Towels... various Sand Paper Grits. Think I've only put sand paper to a bowling a few times ever.

Amateur... ;)

Abralon 180, 360, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000
Sia Air 360, 500, 800, 2000, 3000, 4000
Scotch Brite maroon, blue, white, green, gold, gray
Sandpaper... various

Polish Bean's Sauce, Ebonite Factory Finish, Brunswick High Gloss, Snake Oil, Lanemasters High Gloss, 3M Trizact

Compounds Brunswick Rough Buff, Ebonite Matte Finish, Resurrection, Lanemaster Surface cutting compound

Cleaners Motive Power Gel, Hook It, Remedy RX, Lanemasters cleaner

And mostly important Water spray bottle

The sia air velvet pads are afforable from Grizzly website. I just got my first order two weeks ago. If they last 30 balls (or even close ) I'll switch from abralon to save money.

Like Tenpin said, stuff does build up. I started with a few abralon pads and the brunswick and ebonite polishes. Bottles of polish and compounds last a long time. I run through cleaner pretty fast but I bowl several times a week.

I'll post pics of my setup later. I'm live in a smallish brownstone so I really had to conserve space. A couple rubbermaid tubs and a few crates works well for me.

Forgot to add I have a big bottle of the Motiv Power Gel. (Slap how do you like the Motiv?) It does not seem to bad, think it adds a shine to the ball.

Was about to buy some Bean's, then Lane 1 raised the price through the roof... so that killed the purchase for me and a what seem to a be a alot of others as well.

On the Sia Pads did you buy the 5" or 6"... are they suppose to last 30 balls?

Spray Bottles are for rookie! :p I have 4 one liter bottles, with two small holes drilled in the cap of one.

I actually like the Motiv, it's going to by my daily cleaner for now. It works as well as Remedy RX and Black Magic Rejuventor and it's cheaper than both. I have not noticied a shine.

I lucked out with my bottle of the sauce. Bean's was changing his bottle style or color so he was selling the older style at a discount. It's a unique polish that I like having around but at it's current price I don't know if I will re order when I run out.

I got the 6 inch pads, same size as the abralon pads. Yep brunswick is saying 30 balls.
