It's about to get NASTY. The new Hammer Black Widow Nasty is the dirtiest ball motion yet in the Widow line. Send it wide and watch this Widow wheel back without stopping! Hammer's combination of a new, higher RG Widow core shape, a new Violent Wheel Reactive coverstock and the all new Cover-puck technology is going to redefine the Widow legend.
Hammer's brand new Cover-puck technology brings this Widow back from almost anywhere. With a higher RG and higher differential core system, this Widow pushes further down the lane but keeps it coming on the backend. Just when you think she's about to give up the Big Wheel Reactive cover gets this Widow Nasty going on the backend. Hammer is the first brand in bowling to use Cover-puck technology and it pushes the Nasty to new ball motion that wasn't available with standard Widow cores. You'll see stronger down-lane motion with breakpoints that are easier to control when we use the Cover-puck system.
We've also designed our new Widow core system to not only be high in differential but a little lower in mass bias, creating a more drill-friendly bowling ball. While you should still use asymmetric drilling options with the Black Widow Nasty, the movement of the Low Mass Bias mark will not be as critical as in previous Widow intros.
Another Widow, modified core though. Higher RG, slightly lower diff, lower Mass Bias rating (although it doesn't say how much lower). Will probably look into if they don't introduce a Jigsaw Pearl soon.

OMG ITS PRETTY!:D That balls looks awesome and has less backend snap. This is a winner in my book.

My friend and fellow Hammer staffer threw this ball in Hopkinsville and was QUITE impressed. He said he kept moving in and no matter how far in he went the ball just kept coming back for him. We should have this ball within a few days and I will report back after I have thrown it.

Hammer's reputation is Long and strong . If you look up the term in the dictionary the Widow Nasty is beside the the words.
The Widow Nasty is just what RRBowl described. This ball gets down the lane like no other Widow does and it will come back from anywhere. The backend reaction is something you have never seen out of a Widow Ball before.

That core look awesome!
But seriously how much longer can Hammer go? There are only 60 feet on the lane and the Pearl and venom from what I can see sure go long then come back. So is the nasty path shape that of a hockey stick? or a reverse L (for righties).
I'm waiting for a ball to come out that goes past the pocket then pulls a U turn and comes back to strike :p

Release Date?
Exactly 3 months to the date before the next Hammer Widow that goes the longest and has the most agressive backend of all time comes out.
Seriously, time to retire this line. If they want to BS me into buying yet another widow- at least spend some time in the marketing board room and call it something else and give it a different graphic pattern. Besides that, the title makes no sense. I get Black Widow Poison, Bite, Sting, Killer, - all related to the spider, but Nasty?
I've been awaiting the new Hammer releases, and since I assume there will be a jigsaw pearl, I'm dissapointed to see this.

Uhhhh.....nice ball and all,but how the hell can it be a BW series ball without the Gas Mask core??? Sorry, but it don't pass the smell test. This would be like me driving to Daytona and trying to enter the Nationwide race with my Mustang.
That said, will I give the ball a look??? You bet. But I sure won't be comparing it to any Widow I've seen. This one will stand on it's own.

Gotta agree here. I'm just reading the ad material now to see if the line is still in there because it's turned into an inside joke. Not good.
Seriously, how much dough get's blown with all these fancy ad layouts and lame copy??? What I'm wondering is how it breaks down as a,"per ball" cost. I've never seen a guy run in a Pro Shop waving the ad and screaming,"I've gotta have this ball! It's the biggest hooking, most aggressive one...yada,yada,yada." But I have seen a guy pick between two different balls based on price, when everything else evens out. Maybe there is some serious market share to be gained here. I'll even go way out on a limb and say we've sold more Hammer balls through word of mouth and letting people see the ball in action than all that ad copy combined.
If the ball is good and the price is right for what it does,it'll find an audience.

Tuning Ball Motion:
The Violent Wheel Reactive coverstock used on the Black Widow Nasty will provide medium length with quick
and continuous backend response. However, it is important to keep in mind that all bowlers have different
needs. The Black Widow Nasty can easily be sanded to a rougher grit for stronger hook motion in oil, or it
can be polished for more length and less total hook. When refinishing the Black Widow Nasty to restore the
“out of the box” performance, make sure to sand with a 500 Abralon pad, followed by 1000 Abralon, 2000
Abralon, and 4000 Abralon pads to match the factory spec. Please consult your pro shop operator for
additional assistance in tuning ball motion
It's the details. Rowdy has a point, this ball is a widow in name only...new core/cover plus this new technology. The higher rg should give this ball a different look.

The Chalk core and the BW Nasty core are totaly different in design and technology. The Chalk core is a Low RG, High Mass Bias Core . It is a modified BW Core.
The BW Nasty's core is a High RG Core and a lower mas bias rating. with Cover-Puck Technology. This new core Hammer drilled away part of the outer core and filled that void with Violent Wheel Coverstock material. This offset of coverstock material creates extra hooking power down the lane.
BTW this is supposed to be the last in the Widow line also.

So basically Hammers doing OOB what we've been doing for years, making an offset ball. That thing ought to snap over hard, even without an exotic drill. I really want to see Bill O'Neill rev one of these puppy's up.

My thinking is you want to drill in it. With the core "offset" to the other side, imagine what will happen when you take material out of the "puck" part. Big hook.
The drilling instructions are the same as for any BW ball. I'll assume the MB is marked on this new ball like all the other BW balls. But how to find the "puck" part.......

The mass bias mark on the ball is still important in determining ball motion, just not nearly as much as before with the other core. You still layout this ball using the pin position and the mass bias indicator.
Also with the Higher RG and diff this ball should really push through the front of the lane compared to the gas mask balls.

Bubba,
Do you know if they made a video for the original Black Widow? I remember seeing how hard of a left turn Doug Kent was able to make that ball do during the US Open that he won.
I'd love to compare the original BW to the Nasty here, as from looking at that video, that ball makes a HARD left turn to the pocket. Not like a snap, but just turns left harder than drivers at a NASCAR race.
For those that have the original BW, would you say that ball would be more arcing compared to the Nasty (just based off the video)?
Also, I wonder who did the video..

Thanks.
That explains the left turn the ball makes at the back end. Just going off the ball motion, my guess is that he has the ball drilled similar to the Jacked that he used in that video, as well as the Total NV video he did some 3 years ago. Probably a 4 1/2" - 5" pin.
I wonder how he rates it against the Jacked that he threw...

Think about it this way.
By comparison, the last Faball Hammer to come out was the Burgundy, around 1993 - 1994. That was the last one with that core. I bought my Blue and Blue Pearl in 1989, and I'm pretty sure the Black and Red Hammers came out before then. I want to say that the Nail had the same core, and I want to say that that ball came out in '86, if not earlier. So let's assume '86. that puts Faball using the same core for 8 years or longer.
That's for (arguably) the best urethane ball out there. Seeing that the Zone is the longest running line of balls currently still in production, I could see this going on for a while (though I don't know if the Zone is still using the same core).

Remember I bought three Faball's in the late 90's... Purple Claw, Nail and Sledge Hammer.
Remember when the Zone where "the ball" in the late 90's... They could have stamped Zone on the side of anything and it would have sold.

They get more releases, since the distributor's have exculsive contracts to only care certain products. (If that makes any sense.)
