View Full Version : Extra options on BW?

For most balls, it seems that there is about two options. pin out/in, and top weight.
On the black widow drilling instructions, it mentions mass bias. also, it could be the sketch, but it looks like the CG is moving around the ball.
When I order my ball (probably from buddiesproshop.com, recommended?), do I need to specify the mass bias and CG along with the pin and top weight? Does that come from the drilling?

The cg and mass bias is set when the ball is drilled. The pin position, top weight, and the way you set up the drilling will determine where the cg and mass bias are. The diagrams of the cg moving all around are simply just examples of where the cg could be placed when the ball is drilled. Buddies is a very good online shop, and I have ordered from them without any problems. If you need to know about the top weight and pin position, most drillers would tell ya that a pin of 2-3 out is the easiest to drill. Top weight doesn't make that much difference, and can be accounted for in the drilling. When ordering from buddies, just say any top weight and pin from 2 to 3 out. Everything else can be determined by your pro shop. The BW is a great ball and I wish you much success with it......

If I remember right, the mass bias is a secondary weight area in the core that affects the roll of the ball. In general the MB is always located 6.75 to 7" from the pin, in line with the CG. Not all balls have a MB to speak of. Primarily you will see them on assymectrical balls.
If you look at the NM, Drill 1 puts the MB on the track and you get a skid/flip reaction. My ball (Big Deal) is drilled with the MB below and to the right of the thumb, result is an earlier roll.
Pin in is good for early reactions, Pin out is good for skid flip. Pin above fingers goes longer, pin under rolls quicker (Rules of Thumb) Weight holes bring the ball into spec and also affect roll.

I didn't bring the wrong equipment, I brought the wrong bowler:)
