I just dont understand. 1 week I'm shooting a 300 and 700+ series, the next couple of weeks I'm lucky to break 550, then I get back on track and shoot 612 and 696, and then I shoot shitty again. This past Wednesday I shot a 465, yes a 465. Shot 159, 171, and 135, my god was it horrible. I wasnt the only one having a bad night, the team we played had a couple of bowlers with a 17x avg and a 204 avg, and they shot way under avg too. The ball kept coming in way too high, I mean every shot. I only struck 1 time on the right lane and only hit the pocket 3 times. I'd say this is the worst shooting I've done since I started bowling last Summer. I moved my feet, I moved my line, I threw the ball harder, I put less revs on the ball, but still nothing worked. I know I'm practicing either Sunday and Tuesday, or Monday and Tuesday, so hopefully the lanes will be oiled so I can practice for leagues.

Sometimes, no matter what you do, it's just a bad day. All the things you've said you tried, I've been there and done that. Some food for thought: Sometimes, you just got to stop all the changes and go back to your basic shot that you started with at the beginning of the night. Making too many changes, or over-thinking your ball reaction can hurt your game just as much as not making adjustments at all......I know from my own experience with bad nights......

I know what your saying, and the thing is, I did go back to my original line and shot the last game, and that is when I shot a 135. I usually avg 6 to 7 strikes per game, but this week I'd say I avg 1, maybe 2 per game. But like I said I'm gonna be practicing about 10 games or so between now and Wednesday, so we'll see, and you know I'll give you guys the update.

I know what your saying there. When I bowl bad, I go nuts until I can go practice for about 6 to 10 games. Just don't be too hard on yourself, we all have bad nights out. Seems like I have more than my fair share at times....LOL

I have had way too many this year, luckily when I have a couple bad weeks, I come back with a couple great weeks. Just like the past couple months or so, my series' have been 712, 532, 475, 525, 612, 696, and 465. Talk about UP and DOWN. But I guess I should be kinda happy, with them 7 games, and 4 being horrible and 3 pretty good, my avg has been about 191 over these past 7 weeks. Guess it could be worse.

I feel your' pain,,,, I've been very inconsistent over the past 3 weeks (599, 522, 517, 596, 625, 588, 527, 630, 553). I've suddenly gotten into a bad habit of pulling the ball 4-5 boards inside my mark... I think I'm doing it because the 2 houses in DEAD Moines have suddenly doubled the amount of oil on the lanes (not up to Exxon Valdez quantities yet) and I'm trying to over compensate for it.

I really, really hate bowling bad, but what can ya do?? Seriously?? The pros throw 140-170 every once in a while(just look at their scores).. Everyone slumps a little bit, but a good bowler is the one who can come out of it and forget about it.. Pros slump for a month or 2 at a time sometimes, just gotta go up there and not think too much about it..

I was going to start a post but will just add to this one...I too am pulling A LOT of shots 5-10 boards left!!!!!!!! I have no idea why or what is causing it but it is TERRIBLE!!!!!! I felt like I might not be squaring my shoulders up good but I really concentrated on being square when I release and it just didn't help. Steve

When the lanes insist on giving you a nose job that is one of the hardest things to deal with. I think that sometimes it is hard to move left and keep on throwing your shot. Ditto on throwing harder. I know that I start cranking and changing speeds as I move left. Those things make me inconsistent with my aim.

When aim is inconsistent it is virtually impossible to correct the nose job.

I usually avg 6 to 7 strikes per game

damn...if you average 6-7 strikes a game, and your overall average is 193, you have got to be one of the worst spare shooters in the history of the game...seriously.

I pre bowled today and I shot exactly the same score you did. My ball was coming in way to high and it did not matter what I did. Half way through the last game I grabbed a house ball and finished the game with a 174:rolleyes:

We know we are better than that and will pick it up. Every now and then you just have a bad series and there is nothing you can do about it.

HawgZilla....you just have to keep plugging away. When I got my Black Widow I shot 2 great series right out of the box (72x, 68x). Then a few weeks later I too was in the mid 400's, and couldn't figure it out. I thought the ball had gone dead on me, and tried different balls and didn't help much. It wasn't just me, the whole league was struggling, but then I heard they discovered a problem with the oil machine and once that got corrected, the scores started coming back up. But I also had a pretty minor injury (sore knee), that I didn't think was impacting it. But actually realized I was compensating too much without knowing it and was muscling the ball and was very inconsistent. Knee got better and the scores crept back up. Average went from a 185 to the current 191. So it could be a number of things...just have to keep working at it.

I hate when I do this. Tonight I was on fire. Struck out 1st game for very rewarding 257. Front 8 and stumbled like you would not believe into house for disappointing 253 in 2nd. Was lost the entire third game only needing 190 for 700. Bowled an absolutely messed up 186 with only one open on split to finish with 696.

This is my 5th best series ever and I feel :(

LOL, your about right on that, and thats what I have changed differently in the last few weeks, my spare shooting. The last few weeks when I got my 612 and 696, I was hitting all my spares. And even last week when I wasnt striking, and my first game was a 171, I got 8 spares that game, so my spare shooting is 150% better than a month ago, just last week my strike shooting wasnt up to par.

I did check out some of their scores and some did throw in the 160's and 170's, and Mika Koivuniemi threw a 141, and he still made it to the T.V finals. Guess I gotta regroup and throw better next week.

What I believe hawgzilla#1 means is that lately (as in since and including 300 game) he has high expectations of himself. When he bowls great he gets the 6-7 strikes per game. If he bowled great every time, he would probably not be starting a thread saying he had "another horrible week".

I doubt that his estimate of strikes was meant to be taken literally. I hope hawzilla#1 finds his "A game" where he's shooting 6-7 strikes "almost every time" rather than "normally" and that he gets them all in a row.:D

For the past 2 months or so I have been avg 6-7 strikes per game, but that is when my game is on. When my game isnt on and I only get 1 or 2 strikes per game, my spares are kinda on. Like I already posted my series' have been jumpin from low 700's to high 400's back to high 600's and down to low 500's. Over the past 2 months I would say my spare percentage has gone up from getting 50% of them to 80%, not including splits. With the 10pin, which used to be my least favorite, I used to pick it up like 2 out of 10 times, mainly because I was throwing my Hawg Zilla trying to get it and I wasnt used to throwing it hard and straight, so I borrowed my sister-in-laws plastic Ebonite ball and since then I get the 10pin 9 out of 10 times. Last week, when I shot my 465, my strikes were not there, but my spares were in the 1st game, which I made 7 spares, 1 strikes and 2 opens, including the 10th frame. I would say within the 3 games last week when I shot my 465 I avg about 4 splits per game, and needless to say I didnt get any of them, so thats why I shot soo shitty, maybe if they werent splits and just regular old spares I was trying to pick up than I would have gotten around 170-180 all 3 games, but that wasnt my luck. Over a 1 month period I was calculating my strikes per game and over 1 month I avg roughly 7.5 strikes per game and during that time I shot my 300, a couple 258's, a couple 257's and a couple low 200's, but this past month I have been avg around 5.5 strikes per game, but last weeks shitty series brought that number down into the 4's more than likely, I havent figured it out yet and I probably wont. I'm gonna go practice tomorrow afternoon, so I'll keep track of my strikes per game and how I do and let you guys who care know. Just so you guys who wonder how my avg is only 193, it has been alittle over 200 for the past month, but overall is 193. I started off great this season and was over 200 for awhile until my spare shooting went to hell, and then it fell to the low 190's, then I'll have a great couple of series' and it will jump up around 197-198, but then these damn 4XX series put it right back down to 192-193. As much as I would love for my avg to be 200+ by the end of the season on April 18th, I doubt it will happen, but I'm gonna try. I wouldnt say I'm doing too bad considering I just started bowling last Summer and I only bowl in 1 league and practice maybe 1 or 2 times every 2 months.
