My pro shop recently gave me some advice on bathing a ball. While he said it was perfectly fine to bathe a ball in warm water, he also said not to use dish soap when doing so. The reason for this is because it's impossible to get all the soap out of the ball, then the soap starts breaking down the oil on the lanes very fast. I felt it was necessary to pass on this knowledge to all of you. I would hate to see anyone mess up the lanes they're bowling on!!!!

COOL----- I'm all for breaking down the oil,,,, a drier lane is a higher scoring lane

Maybe use neat washing-up liquid, let it dry onto the ball, then let rip :D
Might smeg up your fingers a bit though.

Interesting... to say the least. Never noticed anything, or lots of residue. But rinse and rinse the ball before I bowling it... I'd hate to know how many gallons a week of water I use to clean my No Mercy.

By the way I like oil, I tend to score much better. Dry lanes SUCK!

^ Agreed.
With my rev rate, it's hard to control the ball on dry, no mater what ball I use. Actually, I more often use my spare ball on extreme dry than I do any other ball...

I've never heard of a ball soaking up soap. But, this is what I was told, so I wanted to pass on the info to all of you.

That's the first I've ever heard of that theory. Yes, most dish soap is designed to break down oil, but you're supposed to rinse the ball or soak it enough times until there is no residue left on top of the water. At that point, there wouldn't be any soapy residue either, indicating that the soap is gone.
I think it has more to do with the new covers that are out. They are designed to eat up oil.

Thanks for passing this on... the lesson of this would be dont wash a ball if you not sure you have enough time to get all the soap out of the ball.
