Hey all, At my hometown lanes I bowl on a tean with a comfortable 4 members. We average around 700. We just received a new bowler-not by our choice-He averages like 85 and his handicape is like 102:( . Every since this I have been bowling 75-100 pins over average to keep and team in second place. He tucks the ball in his are and releases it on the lans with such a big hook at the end. Its a plastic ebonite. Last league he bowles a 84,68,91:mad: What can I do about this?

I would say start teaching him how to be a better bowler. Let all your team members share their experience and knowledge on how to throw the ball, the basics, and get this new player started off right. Sounds like he just likes to throw a hook and doesn't know much more about bowling. If nothing else, just give him the knowledge to be a better bowler for his benefit as well as the team's.....

Teach him how to bowl better and use those handicap pins to your advantage. If you get him to where he bowls three games of at least 130 and you're going to end up with at least 96 more pins at the end of the night. Put a positive light on it. Unless he's just unbearable as a human being, then ask for him to be placed with a different team and site the reasons. Other than the horrible scores...

My biggest question for you is, is he willing to learn? If he is like stated before, use his hndc to your advantage. If he's not, hate to say this... dump him. I guess in my old age I've got less tolerant of these things.
But if he wants to learn, by all means do what you can.
Everyone makes very valid points... If he wants to learn and he's not a bad lad, teach him and make use of his handicap, until it goes away... hopefully. Turn the negative into a positive for all concerned!! All the best with it!!

Ok I was on the other end of this stick... my buddie need someone to bowl on his thursday night team and it started in 3 days so what could i say if i didnt show up he would'nt have enough guys to bowl. I havent bowled in 5 years and when I did I was a 130 ave backup bowler and my first night was bad the first game was a 68 with a house ball and my buddie felt bad and let me use his Burgandy hammer and i shot 128 and 125 so needless to say if it was'nt due to some major teaching from my teamates and a new guy that was stuck in our team by the house in order to fill our roster I wouldnt be up from a 105 average up to a 144 and a 211 high game. My team has me shooting up the second arrow with my BW
I have to say give the guy a chance and help him on the off nights, it worked for me and tons of practice.

Lots of team practices, if he gets hot you guys could end up winning the whole thing.

In my leagues if somebody needs a team, they fill them in an empty spot..
