View Full Version : 300 = 700 ????

This is a thread that is pretty much all in the title. Should a 300 (I have never had one) mean an automatic 700 series (never had one of those either.)
I have had a 279, and then something was wrong the rest of the night, i couldn't figure out what I was doing different. The lanes changed... but it is my fault that I didn't keep up with them, and I never could find it again, and ended up shooting a 694. My next two games were 208 and 207.... still very acceptable scores... I was mad, but happy at the same time that I shot so well. It was a multiple feeling moment, mad that I missed by so little, and happy that I shot so well. In both of my 279 games, I left a 10 pin on the 8th frame. Then struck out. Nearly perfect, 11 strikes out of 12.
So i guess my question is, should a 300 mean an automatic 700? If you shoot a 300, then you need two more games that average out to be 200 apiece.... 300, 200, 200. That's a decent sized order, especially on non-dry lanes that would be changing alot. As you can tell, I don't think a 300 means an automatic 700, mostly because then 4 300s that I have seen shot, offered SEVERAL breaks for the bowl (don't let me lie, I take them too) but when you get those breaks one game and don't get them the next, it can be nasty, 4-9s pocket 7-10s, missed 10s, I mean it all adds up. I have seen people shot two excellent games, say, a pair a 250s, and thin shoot a 197 and get that 697 series... I've seen that a few times ya know?
Anyways, I want your all's opinions... should a 300 = 700?

Nothing is a lock in bowling. For example, my pro at my pro shop a couple weeks back bowled (with the BLACK WIDOW)..............
GM 1: 300
GM 2: 299
GM 3: 172
SERIES: 771:eek:
Just goes to show that you can bowl 23 X's in a row and STILL struggle that last game. So as I stated before NOTHING is a lock in bowling!!!

I rolled a 300 in the first game. After that 12th strike I was dizzy, my legs where shaking and I was in total shock. Now you have to bowl 3 more games! I was lucky because a lot of experienced bowlers told me that you usually shoot poorly after a big game which made me concentrate more.
First shot in game two was a terrible split. I had to really focus shoot 201, 201 and 224 for the next three games. So I was able to pull of a 702 (in my first three games) but a dude bowled a 300 in game 2 ad followed it up with a 150 making a low 600 series.
I think It's probably harder to shoot a 700 if your 300 comes in the first game, how ever it's impossible if your first two games are under 400 and you shoot it in the last...

depends on the person and the situation...but No. I've thrown 300's in last game of set to finish in the 690's and I've thrown 300's in 2nd game only to bak it up with a low deuce or 19x game for 680-690 type sets...I've thrown 300's in the first game and done the same this year in fact started with 300 and finished the night at 799...Thats just me. Everyone handles pressure differently, there are NO GIMMEES...just because you shoot 300, its a great thing, but can you keep the shot from there on out, adjust as you need to and continue to focus. As I got older, probably oldered then dirt compared to most on this forum, I seem to be able to handle the pressure better then I did when I was younger. Does and 300 mean you get a 700...no way, you have to earn it.

Lol, I think that if you bowl a 300, you should be able to get to 700 no problem.. Just my opinion.. I mean if your feeling it enough to get a 300, why shouldn't you be able to get an easy 700??

Pressure..... id have to agree if you throw one in the first game it would be alot easier to choke then say if you through it on you're third. You might have used up all you're mojo on the first game then throw 2 150's lol wait nvm, thats just me :p

Its not a lock but I would say getting a score of above 270 and you should feel disappointed if you do not shoot a 700.
But, as we all know, to bowl three quality games you generally need to adjust at least a couple of times over the evening. If you are so excited about the high score that you wait too long to adjust or choose the wrong adjustment then the 700 slips away.:o

Friend of mine rolled a 300 at Nationals a few years back. Only problem was that his other two games were 150's for a 600 series:o .
Both my 300's were in the third game, and I had been hitting well all night, so both got me mid 7's:D .
Watch a guy bowl an 800 series on Monday and he broke 270 once. Consistency is the key
I'm glad my 3's came in the last game, because I was shot after rolling them.

I watched a guy a few years ago roll 300 and then throw b2b games in the 130- 140s for a 580 something! Nothing is automatic after 300... I guess not even 600! :D

A good buddy of mine threw is first 300, then bowled 168 and 132 for a 600 even. He got really lucky, cause he knows the  he still be hearing to this day. This proves you still have to bowl decent for a 600. Heck the above post even proves that.

Come to think of it, trying to bowl a 700 with a 300 in the first game is just like trying to bowl a 600 with a 200 in the first game. You really need two more quality games or one other monster score or you are out of luck.

LOL,,,, I think it's easier to shoot 700 than 300 (8- 700's & 0- 300's).

Depends on circumstances, for me, chiefly how quickly the lanes change and how similar they are to each other. I've thrown a 176 filled with near-miss flush strike hits that turned into splits, then had a 300 next game that had five light hits that carried, when I adjusted. Then next game the lanes were completely broken down and I could only manage a 190.
How about bowling a 700 series without bowling 200? Did that five years ago in a league: back to back 300s for the first and second games. I'm never going to get a better start at 800. Could only manage 195 for the final despite 7 strikes.
