Howdy Hammerheads.

I need some advice... Yesterday a friend asked me to join his team. It's a 6 month league every Friday. The cost is about $23 each week. As if now I bowl every Monday with Friends and it's very casual. I have never been in a league before but I'm a bit nervous to join... I was hoping someone/everyone could give me some insight into this. Just some pros and cons to help me decide. Thanks in advance for the help.

There isn't a "con" I can think of. You will only get better, and meet new freinds.

The answer is yes!

There are different types of leagues there should be one in your area that will fit what your looking for. From a fun Handi-cap beer league to a competitive scratch league. You can't beet getting out with friends and trowing a few games. If your Friday night friends are fun to bowl with, create a team with them and bring that to a league, you guys will have a blast!

Im in a league for the first time in about 15 years this year and I cant believe it took me so long to get back into it, Im having a blast and getting better every week. I bowled a lot as a kid and in my late teens early 20's but havent bowled too much since then.

You should also look to play in tournaments as well, we just played in one 2 weeks ago ( 5 man team then doubles and singles ) and we ended up placing 5th in the 5 man team. We made a bowling newsletter which I seen for the first time last night, pretty cool seeing our team name on the same page with an article about Pete Weber

you'll like being in a league

I started bowling "seriously" two years ago this July. I was approached by a stranger and asked me if I wanted to join his team. I was terrible. He said I would improve, besides, my handicap would even things out. I joined, ended up with a miserable 146 average. But, I met some good folks, got exposed to some good bowlers who helped me along. I joined a summer leage, my average "jumped" up to 155. Met some more good people, got to know the center owners and staff, etc. Next to joining my fraternity in college, it was and is a great experience. I see these folks in town, they speak, they call when they know I'm ill - just another brotherhood for me. Now, I am bowling in another center on Monday nights and have extended my circle of friends in addition to those new friends I have made at my home center. Shoudl you join? Hell yes!

Thanks for the great feedback everyone! I'm going to go for it. I was just worried I'd let my team down but the handicap should cover the gap between me and the better bowlers. Hopefully I can get my average up.

I bowl in a league at Baker Lanes in Cherry Hill, the alley is in need of an upgrade that it will never get unless its sold but we can bring our own and we never have trouble getting lanes

I just signed up for a spring / summer league at Laurel Lanes in Maple Shade on Rt 73, nice place that Im looking forward to bolwing at

The trounament we bowled in was at the Brunswick Zone in Deptford which is a nice place as well. I live down the street from the Playdrome in Cherry Hill but the place is always packed and you never know when you'll be able to get a lane so I rarely go there

I know Baker doesnt have Sports Bowling but Im not sure of the other places

I've been in leagues since I was 6. I've been in this league for about 10 years. Good times. It's not a very competitive league, but there are a few averages over 200. This year our entire league - 2 bowlers are going to the St. Clair Tourny in Ohio. We party together, play cards, it's a good time.

The only con I found was this year, but it's my fault. This is my first year as League Sec. I pretty much do everything for these guys but throw the ball for them. Lemm tell ya, it's like running a freakin' Day Care. But none the less, it's bowling and I love it.
