I might have messed up.

I been bowling with a 14 pounder for about a year now, wanted to step up the weight cause I felt I was throwing the ball too fast. I did, but to a 16 pounder.

Felt real good Tuesday night, no problems, smooth transition, hit the pins alot harder in my opinion.

Went back Thuseday night, same thing, bowled good.B.UT..I woke up today and my wrist is killing me. Almost feels like it's sprained..very weak..it just hurts.

I know alot of people don't bowl 16's anymore.

What pound ball are you throwing? Any problems?

BTW, I'm 21 and work out regularly...when I throw the ball it doesn't seem ''heavy'' or like i'm working too hard.

thanks

Well, I throw a 16lbs, and my wrist doesn't bother me. I'm not muscular either, I'm more on the skinny side, but I have been working out for the past three weeks. I moved up from a 14 to a 16 last year and my wrist has never bothered me once. Maybe your twisting your wrist weird when you throw the ball?

I throw a 15 pound 3 ounce Toxic. Im 21 and of athletic build, but I found a 16 pounder to be slightly too heavy to get any kind of consistent roll for my style. Have you considered any kind of wrist support system like the Masters II or the Cobra? Maybe if you could borrow one of them from a friend and throw a few to see if the pain goes away it would show whether it is your release causing the pain.
Im no expert by any means... its just a suggestion.:D

I am 23 years old and started to have the same problem after I stopped using a wrsits guard. I also work out about 5 days a week and I was told by a doctor friend that its probably tendinitis.

I've been throwing 16 lb for at least 25 yrs now...When I work with out youth leagues and I see people stepping up in weight class alot of the time the new ball is too much for them to handle. Not saying this is your issue, but you have to figure out the added weight on your wrist and what you are asking to support. One thing we do for the kids is give them weight training...now this will sound weird but it works...or you can just get a support for your wrist...But I still recommend the training for long term commitment. We take a piece of PVC 1/2" is about right cut it 14-16 inches long, in center we run a piece of string thru it. On the end we put various fishing sinkers, add or subtract as you go. We usually start with 2 oz...yes, 2 oz. hold your arms straight out and turn the ovc with just your wrists. Do not been your elbows. After you crank up crank it down, no slipping thru fingers...do this 5 times and you will be glad its just 2 oz. key is keeping your arms straight out and do bend you elbows. Sounds easy, but you would be surprised how effective it will be in short while. Most people resort to a brace of some sort, I won't say anything about that other then I think they hide the real issue, but sometimes they are a good thing...do as you see fit, but I believe 16 is too much of jump for you right now......good luck with whatever you do

I'm 24 overweight and never have problems with my 15 lbs. balls. I realize that doesn't help much but listen to Tunat.

good advice :D

maybe it's just something heavier that your wrist/arm need to adjust. i also switched from 12lb to 15lb recently and i also felt some pain not only in the wrist but all the way to my shoulder.

after 3 weeks or so, im adjusted to my heavier ball and i don't feel the pain anymore...altho i always make sure i use a wrist guard.

good luck ;)

yea, I never played with a wrist guard. I'll pick one up once it heals and see what happens.

I throw 16's, been doing so since I can remember. With a wrist brace, for the last 15yrs? I'm thinking next year when I start replacing balls, I'm going down to 15. 2 reasons, Less wear and tear on me, and I'm one of a handful of guys that still uses #16 at my proshop. So everytime I want something he has to order it. Not THAT big of deal but you know...
