I believe everyone has their own special types of spare throws style.Finger placements, where to look down the lane, etc. What is your style and most difficult pins to knock down and how do you tackle it?

For me,I always leave behind the 10pin for some strange reasons and 9 out of 10 times,I failed to nailed it down.I either miss it by a few inches to the left or the GUTTER:eek: .I adopt the 'intersection' spare throws(extreme left for 10pin,extreme right for 7.I'm a right hander)And I'm bloody sure,if I'm able to knock it down consistently,I'll be able to reach the 200+ mark. But,for now,I have to stick to my 160++:(

this is also my waterloo...but im improving a lot.
it depends on the ball you use. reactive and high performance balls will be extremely difficult to use for spare balls due to their intense roll and sudden flip.

using your similar approach and position, i use my old plastic ball (bought from a garage sale for $5 about ten years ago and never used it until last year); it hooks at the end just a tiny bit.

i found that it is most effective to hit the 10pin if i aim and roll it straight and for the 7pin, my aim is to the right of the pin expecting that short hook to help me bring it down.

but my plan is to buy me a Tuff polyester ball before summer season starts. ;)

another possible solution:
my friend who is a strong cranker uses his strike ball to hit the 7pin and he uses a plastic spare ball to hit the 10pin. he told me to do the same but i haven't followed him. :D

im a lefty and for 7's i stand on 5 board and shoot at the very tip of the middle arrow. I mentaly draw a line from the tip to the pin and throw my TUFF strait at the 7. im about 98% accurate at shooting at it that way. for 10's i do the same thing just on the other side but i always shoot at the tip of middle arrow.

I use my strike ball & line (with an adjustment in approach position) for all spares with the 1 pin and if I have to shoot at a 5, 3 or 8.
I use my TUFF for every thing else......
4 pin & 7 pin I start 4 - 5 boards right of center & shoot the 2nd arrow,,, 3 pin & 9 pin 7 boards left of center & shoot 2nd arrow,,, 6 pin & 10 pin I'm 15- 16 boards left of center & shoot the 3rd arrow (12 boards left for the 3 - 10).
This method works well for me since I don't have to alter my swing/release,,,,, same hand position, speed every thing.

Get a spare ball!!!!!!! That is the best advice anyone has ever given me. I use a white dot that I bought it used for $25 from my pro shop and it is MORE valuable to me than my No Mercy and Doom COMBINED!!!!! Steve

I have an Ebonite Ice i use for my spares. I used to use a Target Zone for my spares. The Ice doesnt have a major hook so I can use it for my spares. Anyway, I Just try to throw it start at them 7 10 or whatever.

The easiest thing i've found, at least if i'm shooting at extreme right pins 6,9,or 10 pin, i throw the exact same line as my strike ball, but I do it with a plastic ball. If you feel uncomfortable trying to shoot at single pins, use a plastic ball and just point right at it. that alone got my personal spare shooting up around 70-80% especially single pins.

Thanks.Maybe I should get me a plastic balls..coz currrently,I'm a one ball man.
I try not to change my release by changing positions, breaking wrist coz I dun want to mess up my strike throws. Also,I'm using a handguard, therefore my wrist is restricted.Throwing a plastic ball, with my strike throw methods,is a good idea to hit those 6s,9s,10s.Thanks again.:D
