View Full Version : Spare ball maintenance?

Silly question but do plastic spare balls require any maintenance?
I've had mine for 4 years now and have done nothing but wipe it down before putting it in the bag at the end of the night. Could it benefit from a resurface? Or a stint in the auto shiner?

Wouldn't have thought you needed to do anything else, unless you want it to go back to being nice and shiny.
I suppose it could also be argued that resurfacing would be undesirable as it's a spare ball and you want it to go dead straight. Giving the ball improved grip would therefore go against the need for having it in the first place.

I make a point of cleaning the 10W-30 off of my TUFF just like I do the Black Widow,,, I might want the TUFF to go straighter, but, I don't need it sliding down the lane like it's on ice.

Not to be confrontational but I disagree with that completely. Resurfacing it will make it much smoother, and take out all of the nicks and scratches that make it grip.
I would indeed recommend resurfacing and taking up to a high polish every now and then. Not regularly of course, but if it has some scratches here and there I would.

I just resurfaced my White Dot! :p Don't remember how low of a grit I started with, probably burgandy scotch brite, finished sanding at 4000 grit abralon and polished highly. Still not straight, but darn close. 4000 and polished was overkill.
Guess I vote resurface! ;)

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one going nuts with the spinner!

WooHoo! :D
So far I've...
Changed my BW to 2000 (but it's going back to 4000)
Changed my Toxic to 2000 sanded then 2000 plus matte
Resurfaced my BV 500-2000-4000 then polished it to a mirror shine
Resurfaced my AR 220 to 360 then rough buff
Changed my WMB to 360.
...and it's only been six days
To all you Hammerheads, skip your next $200 ball purchase and buy a spinner instead. The hype is real. After playing around with the surface it's like throwing a different ball.

And no not because I replace them...I just have never felt the need to resurface a spare ball. I throw plastic because it goes straight.
I have been using the TUFF for the last 2 seasons without ever even wiping it off.
