Well. I had my BW at 4000. I need more grip now on the lane, it seems the ball is starting to slide alot more, because I'm throwing harder, but I'm still putting revs on it.

I clean it regularly, only had for a month.

What grit do you think I should bring it down to?
I heard 1000 is a good grit, but I was thinking maybe slightly lower.

Sanding the ball will make it read earlier. 1000 is a good place to start, going lower may cause your ball to roll out sooner. GOOD LUCK!

I would try 2000 then 1000. It's good to experiment in steps.

That said, how are you cleaning it? Have you tried a hot water bath?

I have giving my ball hot water baths and my Widow still seems to have lost some of its reaction. I was thinking of going to 2000 grit and going from there.

Sanding a BW down from 4000, may not be the answer. I have a BW and after 4-6 weeks of bowling with it I noticed it didn't have backen reaction it had when I first drilled it. Also some of the guys I bowl with BW had the same problem. The ball seems to soak up a lot of oil. So before sanding down to 2000 or 1000 I would let local pro-shop try to get oil out of it or even do it your self if you know how.

Welcome to the forum wen300.

I say give the BW a bath. Go put 10 games on it and see how it reacts. If it's not where you want it, take it to 2000 then down to 1000 if you need more. Good luck

I gave it a hot water bath which Brian Graham instructed me to. I got a lot of oil out of it already and it worked for a while. I will give it another bath before I resurface it and go from there.

yeap! deff. bathe it first, buttttttttt, i have my widow at 1000g and i totally love it. Im a fan of cover changing, its nice to try out new things, and you can always go back. 1000g is the money for me tho, i tried 2000g too haven't gone lower then 1000g. Good stuff though hope you get things sorted out! I bowl twice a week, and bathe my ball every other week. so give or take every 12 games, and it seems to work wonders for me, mine hasn't lost any backend at all

i dont have a BW but i have a NV and i as well had it at 4000 and it wasnt getting the reaction i was looking for...but not because of oil because the oil isnt even on there when the ball gets back from the ball return its crazy.....very good coverstock. But i just got it sanded down to 2000 and i like it alot....im thinking about going to 1000 before i go to a tournament. I like to change the surface as well. The proshop guy as well instructed me on one of my other balls that he had a bake machine which he would use on my very oiled up ball and then resurface it and see how that goes. he says that works very well

The ball will break sooner on the lane. So you will lose a little bit of length. I have some good power and revs behind my throws, and found the 4000g was too high for me. To each his own tho, ill stand by my "Try it out, you can always change it back :)"

another question should be what is it doing that you dont want it to do and what is it you want it to do? if you want to maybe play more inside then 2000 or 1000 is the way to go or if you want to throw it harder.

I like playing inbetween the third and second arrow, I do best that way. My ball arcs when I'm throwing my best, so if I bring it down, will the arc get bigger?
(I currently throw 15-16mph when I'm doing good.)

im no expert but im sure that bringing the grit down alittle bit it will roll earlier go less down the lane therefore more reaction and hook.....i as well play between the 2nd and 3rd arrow the best thats why i have my total NV is to play between those lines. i used the toxic as well but then all of a sudden it died on me for some reason and i ahve seen alot of people say that about the toxic.

i would say just try it at 2000 then if you want more go to 1000 and if you dont like it then go back to 2000 thats the best thing about the balls surface you can change it back and forth all you want lol.....once again surface means everything gotta do what you gotta do to get strikes

I know you have had your Toxic longer than I have (since I used your recommendations when I got it drilled). I find the Toxic to be as strong as ever. I use Track's Clean and Dull and the Toxic may be my most reliable ball. I have my Toxic at a dull 2000. It is one fine piece of equipment. I have used in to play from 10-12 all the way over to 15-17 (basically my max move I do left at the moment).

i dont know what is wrong with the toxic i will have it sanded down to 2000 again and see how that goes it might be because my lanes have put alot more oil out and i use the Total NV alot now.....but thanks for taking the recommendation and glad u enjoy it. i have bowled a 700 with the toxic and finished 2nd in a tv finals in my local city lost 213-235 with that ball and didnt have to move all day after 8 games it was a great great day
