View Full Version : Is it wrong to adjust on 6 strikes?

2nd game tonight I started with front 6. I am thinking the world is my oyster. As I am waiting for it to be my turn everyone ahead of me is coming really high a either crossing over or getting big nasty splits. I wonder if I should move left a couple of boards with feet and target but decide to just throw the ball.

Result: Hit right on the nose and left Greek Church. Yada Yada Yada ended up with 227.

Overall threw 218, 227, 200 ---> 645.

Question is: Is it insane to adjust based upon what you see happening in front of you? Or, should you wait for it to happen to you too?

me personally im always talking to my teammates figuring out what they think and i know how there shot is suppose to be and how it is suppose to look if you see it happening like that or if i did....i would have moved to the left a few boards depending on the amount of hook. so no i dont think it is wrong it is a hard decision but if you know your teammates are throwing a good ball and the lanes break down i would of moved

no it's not wrong to move after 6, you saw the lanes starting to break down and tried compensating for it. there's nothing wrong with that at all.

I useally see it every week in league. A lot of people start going high and splitting right before I shoot(I seem to see it right away), right around 6-8th frame in second game(like you stated). I useally make a small to moderate move left and hopefully I am high flush. So many times I am asking my teamates did I hit the 3 pin?

Now on 6 strikes that is a hard one, it should be no different than any other shot but you still have to make the move.

yep talk to your teammates.....i ALWAYS do i think i annoy them alot by asking do u think the left lane is hooking more than the right lane. i ask them that all the time and they all give me crazy looks and say," of course, you already knew the answer."

Yeah. I needed to either get firmer with my shot, or move left. Instead I hit my mark with perhaps a little less speed and the ball just overreacted.

Thanks for the input.

....front 6....ended up with 227
Not really relevant but my high score to date is 227 and I also started with the front 6.

I have adjusted after front 4-5 etc, if you see that your ball is slowly getting higher and higher in the pocket, what do you do? just watch it go higher and higher and hopfuly you dont leave a 9 pin or a huge split? no you would adjust and you would have a better chance of striking..... and if you still stuff up there is still plenty of other times

In that situation I would have made a small move as well. Probably two at the feet and one at the target.

Being the end of the year you should know how your teams balls reacts and seeing the lanes breaking down you should move even after the front six.

That is good point, but this is actually beginning of new season. I am getting used to 2 bowlers on my team, and I do not think I have ever bowled against the guys on the other team.

Of the entire group only about 2 of the other 7 bowlers I could say were using my similar line. Others may have passed through my line but only a couple I thought were good barometers of my shot. In retrospect it was both of the guys with similar lines that were getting the most high hits and splits that entire second game.

Well when your bowling with people your not familiar with, watch their line, ie, pusshing oil into your line, taking oil away from your line. Might give you a heads up on adjusting. I know its hard to move after youve thrown a few in a row, thats just something after time you just get use to. Trust is a must.

I never adjust on what I see happening to others, especially if I have a line. There are too many variable to consider like spped, revs, oil pattern/carry down, etc. to make a move if my shot is working. If your line appears to being changing then move but I never move based on others problems. With that said I will ask what is happeningf on my teammates shot and why they think that is happening to put in my mind what is going to possibly be happening to me in the near future.........

One thing that i would do if you see that, is just move like 2 boards because that should show you if it has changed. Also, if it hasn't, you should come in light and still strike.

I would first make sure that they are hitting their mark and coming through the ball on release.

i don't believe there isn't a sacred time to adjust..... i've adjusted with front 9, front 10, front 11.....and needing a double in the 10th for 800 or with the team needing me to triple to tie the game...

There is NEVER a wrong time to adjust. Case closed.

ahhh...i read "shouldn't have moved" ok...well, definitely ask your teammates, since they bowl with you enough to know how your ball moves, so next time, ask what they think, if you should or should not make any adjustments.

I actually wouldn't move unless someone was playing the same line as you or you had evidence to move in your last shot. If the break point is still the same and you are throwing a less used line to the break point then your shot should still be there.

However it sounds like you already knew you should have moved. Even one board will make you pay more attention your next shot.
