View Full Version : Issues with the Doom

Having read so much about how great the Doom is, I picked one up a couple weeks ago. I got it drilled the same as my Big Deal. The Doom goes longer and has a ton of backend, whereas the Big Deal is more arcing and hits much stronger. My issue is this: the Doom does not hit hard at all (15lbs), it bounces off the pins, and it leaves a ton of splits. I used it for a few frames in a tournament last weekend, and once I hit the pocket and left the 3-6-7-9-10. (i'm a lefty), and had three other splits in that game (the middle game of the series, of which the bookends were 243,205 with Big Deal). I also leave a lot of 5-10s on light hits, it just doesn't carry. Usually it just whips so much on the backend that it chops the pins.

I haven't altered the coverstock, but I wonder if anyone has and what results you've seen...

Otherwise, I think I'll have it plugged and redrilled before I give up on it.

and btw, the Big Deal hits like a truck. Huge, huge difference between the reactions of the two balls.

Thoughts, recommendations are appreciated...thx.

I just got back from my first league series with exclusively the Doom. Shot 709. So yeah, nevermind this post.

Must be the way you have it drilled I shoot pretty good with it But it does have a problem at times leaving tens but all in all the hit is great.

The DOOM, is one the best hitting , pearl, balls I ever thrown. The hit and the carry are phenomenal. I have two of them, one....pin down, 4 and half inches from pap , cg kicked out 30 degrees from the midline. Ave. 254 for twelve games in the scratch tour finals here in southern WI. The other one is a six inch pin , also 30 degrees from my midline. When the heads start to go, and you have carry down. Grab a DOOM!!!

JDR,
I suggest you work the surface on the Doom if you intend to use it on the conditions where the Doom is coming in light or behind the headpin. The Doom is designed for med/light lane conditions and that's why it comes out of box with a high polished finish. Use the ball for what's intended for and you'll get great results. If the lanes have alot of carrydown or on longer patterns use your Big Deal. Each ball has a different purpose and that's why there are different balls with different price ranges

This post must be bogus. You don't hit the pocket and only get 5 pins. NOT POSSIBLE... and if you did, maybe its time to try something else....say GOLF, maybe another line of equipment, or different drillings !!

hey qwerty - in case you didn't notice, i immediately wrote a response to this post saying to 'nevermind' it, because i shot 709 the next time out. this is not a bogus post. it is possible, although unfortunate, to leave 5 pins if you hit the pocket dead, or, in this case, chop the head pin at such an angle that there is no carry whatsoever. and this was just one response to one bad shot. i don't appreciate the insults - golf sucks - and hereby render this post finished.

JDR Chill out !!!! There was no insult there....... however, you CAN NOT hit the pocket and only get 5 pins. The only way possible to do this is if your JR. LEAGUE material and throwing light bowling balls. If your affended by my post, maybe you should read your post. As for GOLF............. the only sport I know where you can hit a good shot and not be penalized (say a pocket 5 count..whatever). Just because you hit the 1 - 2 (left handed pocket), doesn't mean you hit the pocket. Your posts go from extreme to the next. MAKE UP YOUR MIND !! Here is your insult....typical lefty. Thinking everytime they hit the 1 - 2 it should be a strike... WHATEVER

thanks, gryndryno, i'm glad you see the humor in all of this. i'm not going to dignify qwerty's rant with a response, except that i'm not "affended" by any drivel he may write. he can come challenge me any time, and i'll give him his handicap. and, for the third time, and god help me, the last, i pronounce this pointless post DEAD. thanks...

JDR Now you really opened up a can of worms. HANDICAP ???? Anywhere...anytime...and just a little history... 2 PBA titles, USBC eagle (ABC championships last year), this years USBC championship top 25 in all-events, top 10 in average the last 15 years combined at the USBC championsships, numerous state titles and made almost $36,000 last year bowling.... I'LL SAY IT AGAIN..... CHILL OUT. And if you really want a challenge, just let me know. Bring your HAMMER stuff because obviously the way you throw it (5 count in the pocket) nothing "HITS" like a HAMMER....
I take it back, qwerty is prettier.

in total agreement with you there. i've wanted this thing to go away for awhile now. it's silly, and there are far better things in bowling to talk about. so, i'm going to relegate myself to those. this is officially my last post on this thread...
