ouch!..am I the only one this has happened too?
It hurts like a bitch. It has happened about 3-4 over the past 3-4 months and I know I get spooked sometimes on my release...also catch myself throwing the ball slower than I want.
Any stories..advice??

Inside ankle?
My advice would be keep your non sliding leg closer to your body.

dropping your sholder BIG time. or just sliding to the side, and still throwing straight, but i know when i was y oung and nailed my ankle a few times, it was because i was dropping my shoulder. and yes, it hurts very much.

I do that sometimes, i just have never hit it majorly. It does hurt. I don't do it very often as much anymore.

I did it for the first time about 3 weeks ago. I stuck on my approach so the release was all sorts of messed up and cracked my ankle. It hit hard enough on my bone that it broke the skin and it trickled blood in the exact pattern as my sock threads. :(

Damn Jman.
I used to do it at least once a month >.>
I'm starting to straighten out my form now. It used to happen when I sped up the ball, because my timing was all off. I'm starting to improve, but I really really need a coach.
But in order for me to have a coach I must have a job to pay for it...I'm working on it. (I'm 15)
Last time I hit my ankle I almost broke it. Like smash, everyone hears a crack, and i crawl off the approach. My ball made me bleed then, and my friend called me a pussy and told me to bowl >.>

well, I honestly I think there should be something on the market for this (is there?).
Until then it's in my head everytime I approach..somewhere lodged in the back waiting for the exact moment when..CRACK!!
I'm going to make a guard of some sort..something small, thin (but durable), and comfortable to put in your sock covering that awful protruding bone that gets in the way of my not-so-perfect form.
To hear some of you say, broken skin, bleeding, near broken ankle?!?
Now i'm shook.
Drop any ideas for my soon to be DIY invention.

Hitting the ankle with the ball is a pretty rare occurrence. The thing that I do with more regularity is clanking my ankles together on the approach making one or both bleed. I have several pairs of socks with blood stains on the ankles. Luckily I have not done this in several months. Hopefully I will never clomp the ball against the ankle. I have tripped and fell down over the foul line. That sucks and hurts too!
Developing a protective device sounds like a good idea.
Idea I had once is to develop a hard hat to wear when golfing just in case someone you are playing with or another on adjacent hole hits errant shot that hits you in the head. Perhaps we can sell your idea and mine on the internet? What do you think?:p

All I can say is WOW...
I can't believe they make such a product. If it's happening that often, something is wrong with your form.

Again, I did this when my foot stuck on the approach. I realize what you are saying though.

In your case I'm sure that was a "once in a while" thing. If you're buying an ankle guard then you're doing it quite often.
My leg is a built in "timing meter." I've found that when my timing is off my ball will brush against my leg. It doesn't happen often but then it does that's an immediate sign to me that I need to slow down and regroup.

I've been lucky enough that this hasn't ever happened to me yet. It has happened to several people that I've bowled with have done it and it looks like it hurts like hell.:o

I've never hit my ankle with the ball. Usually I hit the side of my calf and the ball goes directly into the gutter. I do remember once when I was a kid in my first bowling league I fell over and went into the gutter, that sucked.
