Ok, here is an issue for you to think about. We just finished up the leagues for the year. The team is solid on both nights with 3 main bowlers on the squad out of 5, bowling both nights. We did well one league ran away with both halves and league championship. The second league, we took 1 of the 3rds finishing 2nd and 3rd in the other two. Championship rolloff this week. after championship round, The 2 different bowlers are moving and will not bowl next year, so we need to replace those 2. The 3 of us avg over 210 a man in each league, usually we are 3 out top 5 avgs. We have had 27 people offer to join our team to replace the 2 that are leaving. None of them are the 2 from other league...now, given the we have choice of bowlers to take, whom would you choose and why. Here are some stats for you to consider. 1. handicap league 90% of 210, 10-12 teams max (12 lane house), all men, people offering to join have avg's ranging from high of 197 to low somewhere in the 140's, some from this league some from others. This team has been one of the top teams almost every year its been together, with nice payouts at end of year. Now, you know the whole story whom would take and why? (no-cap on avg's or handicap), do u go with high avg and hope to make them a pin or two better, or get someone on low end and jump them 20 or 30 pins in avg, or take someone in middle that might have potential, just needs some work......what do u think you would do and why.

Dude first and foremost take the person or persons you will have the most fun with. Your stuck with them all year and no amount of money is worth being miserable every league night.

Sounds like you and your current team are all solid bowlers, so there are no better bowlers you can take to help your current team learn. That being said especially in a handi-crap league I would take a lower average bowler that you and your teammates can mentor (some one you feel has potential). You turn a 150 bowler in to a 180 plus bowler then not only are you helping someone out, but your team will flourish. Thats what a team did for me when I started bowling and I'm forever grateful...

for handicap leagues, i have to agree on canham's suggestion. pick a low average but passionate bowler (more potential to improve and dedication is a must, like me :D )
in addition, there's nothing sweeter than to start your ranking in the lower ranks and slowly work your way to the top...perseverance is the key ;)

for scratch leagues, then the high average is a must.

Take someone with a 160 average. Usually people in that range (like myself) could use a few pointers on release and shooting spares to raise the average easily.
