A guy on the team i was bowling against this past Thursday threw an 800 series, but ended up having his scores tossed because i noticed that his ball wasn't drilled to legal specifications. It was a sanded Storm Shift, drilled with the tournament layout, but didn't have the required weight hole. I said something about it to the lady that oversees the league, so she had the pro-shop guy weight it, and sure enough, the side weight difference was way beyond legal. So, i guess you could say i ratted him out, but its really his fault if you think about it. I just happened to know that ball pretty well, and i knew what i saw wasn't right. Needless to say the guy was pissed.

That is either HIS fault or the fault of the person drilling his ball. It all depends on whether he was told it wasn't legal. But good eye, they have that rule for a reason.

More people should spend time becoming aquainted with their equipment and how it should be configured. Most people just make a purchase and put it all in the proshops hands... which normally may be okay, but there are times where I've dealth with worthless proshop's and am glad I knew what I was looking at.

As to whose fault it is... I guess that's up in the air for most people, but the bowler is always, at least partially, to blame in my opinion.

well, i know for a fact that it wasn't drilled at the alley's pro shop, because the owner won't drill a ball outside legal specs, even if you ask him to do so. More than likely he had a buddy at another pro shop that drilled the ball for him.

if that is the case, then I am very glad you caught him. He should have to go through having his equipment measured every week, the embarassment of that is a mild punishment if he indeed did know his ball was illegal.

Agreed. It'd be a sad story if he wasn't in the know, but I still feel that every bowler should know about their equipment. If you're not taking the time to understand your equipment then you're not serious enough to be bowling a sanctioned league ;)

But in the case it was intentional... bring on the embarassment.

Jeez...nice eye...sucks for him. When you see him next time you should say really loud, "NO 800 FOR YOU, FOR A YEAR!"

Well spotted, and if the "victim" doesn't take kindly to it then questions would have to be asked as to his overall standpoint on the rules.

Good eye,Gabe. If the chump doesn't like it,tell him to show up with legal equipment EVERY week! And yeah,I would have his stuff checked EVERY week with all the other team captains standing there watching.BTW,also check ALL the balls his teammates are throwing.I know it sounds harsh, but like NASCAR someone will put an obvious cheat out there hoping that everyone is so focused on that one they miss a couple of little ones! The rules are there to level the playing field for everyone,so if you can't roll by the rules go roll in the parking lot!:D
