Well...i know powerhouse works...only my proshop isnt open...my driller is out right now with something wrong with his foot. The only cleaner the other shops have is Storm Reacta Shine...and i hate that stuff, doesnt clean at all in my opinion.
So...I was wondering about what chemicals would be safe to mix to create a ball cleaner until i can get my hands on some powerhouse.

Pretty much. The only other thing you maybe COULD use would be laundry detergent. If you used dry/powder it may also act as a light abrasive (just don't get carried away). Basically, the ball cleaners are nothing but detergents/degreasers... but LIGHT stuff... not strong. Strong detergents/degreasers would ruin your ball.

How about rubbing alcohol? Would that ruin the ball surface?

Rubbing alcohol is not approved by the usbc. You could have your scores thrown out.:(

Rubbing Alcohol is approve for use during competition or any other time. Give it a bath, is the best cheapest alternative. When you parent get home find a proshop they'll drive you to, to pick some up.
Here are some I'd consider using or buying:
Ebonite Energizer
Track Clean and Dull---Heard good stuff. This product makes the ball tacky.###
Black Magic---Lots of guys here like this one, so I have heard good stuff.
### What I have read, is that products that make balls tacky only last for so long before you need to use it again, to keep the reaction. So you loss ball reaction, faster, than with a product that does not.

Doh, had a case of the stupids.:D
I have heard that rubbing alcohol does damage to coverstocks after prolonged use though.

Well, considering I haven't cleaned my ball in oh... About 2 years (since last time I bowled in a league, prior to a few weeks ago) I don't think I have been using rubbing alcohol too much. ;)
Of course since I am getting a new ball drilled either tonight or tomorrow, and am planning on retiring the old ball, I may not worry about it and just suffer through one more week of bowling 50 below my previous average...

Well, sorry for the false info. Welcome to the board and I hope you'll stick around. What ball are you looking into?

Actually from what I have read is that is doesnt do damage but it only cleans the coverstock surface and traps oil in the pores... So it doesnt draw the oil out of the coverstock only the surface which would probably not help restore the balls reaction longer then half of a game at the max...

Take a bottle of 409. Spray it all over the ball, let it sit for like 10 seconds, wipe it off, flip the ball and repeat, then i usually spray it on the track, then jus ttake the paper towel and wipe over the whole track, usually cleans it really good.

The bad thing I have read about alcohol is ,that it contains mineral oil or other substances, so it will not dry out your skin.

I've been using black magic rejuventaor as my regualr cleaner, and everey few weeks i'll give my balls a short bath and hit it with some track clean-n-tacky. Keeps them reacting like they should.

I'm getting a Black Widow drilled tonight. Then I'm going to bowl about a dozen games to try to figure out how to throw it without immediately veering into the left gutter. Hopefully it will at least be consistent, unlike my current ball (a 6 or 7 year old Brunswick Attack Zone that has DEFINITELY seen better days).

I would just wait until your pro shop opens, and learn from this. Always keep a spare, bowling ball cleaner is like deoderant, you never want to be without it.

alright i recommend buying a BIG bottle of the Black Magic Rejuvenator off www.bowling.com its the cheapest thing to do rather than do the 8 oz bottle go for the 32 oz wont have to buy another one all season mine lasted ALL season and now i am going to have to buy one more and i am very religious on cleaning my balls infact i am about to use it right now after i get off here.....LOL i recommend the Black Magic Rejuvenator. bowling.com it is like 26.99 and free shipping i do believe and it is a good price for how long it lasts can put it in a smaller bottle so it isnt too bulky i just put the big bottle in my bag. I usually clean it after every session (like i said religious use).

I've tried several cleaners and IMHO Rejuvenator is the best for daily cleaning.

Scubasteve-Stand with your RIGHT foot ON the center dot on the approach.Toss that Widow smack between the 2nd and 3rd feather.Just put a normal lift on it No need to go Hawg wild.See what you get.Adjust as necessary. If you're leaving 7's or 10 pins move your feet 2 or 3 boards to the side you're leaving the pin on.Move right for a 10 pin, left for a 7.Throw at the same spot on the lane. This will usually fix the problem. If you want to crank it,put your right foot on the farthest right dot, wind that puppy up and wizz it between the 1st feather and the ditch. The 2 or 3 board is about right. If you threw it with ENOUGH SPEED it WILL hit the pocket.Nerve wracking shot, though.

Well, I ended up bowling 4 games last night. I was adjusting my feet and target the whole time. The most success I had was putting my right foot on the left most dot and aiming between the first and second arrows from the right. Even then I was going brooklyn more often than not. Admittedly, the lanes were pretty dry, but I'm going to have to learn to deal with it one way or another. I plan on going out again sometime this weekend and getting a couple more games in prior to my Wednesday night league. I will try what you mentioned though.

Practice, practice and even MORE practice. You need to have an A,B and C shot, depending on the oil you get that nite.I've got 4 different shots I can use.Working on the 5th now.

Well, tonight I get thrown to the wolves. I'm heading to the lanes a bit early to get a couple practice games in, then have my first night of league with a 'real' bowling ball. I don't know what is going to make more difference, bowling with a ball with that much backend or bowling with a 15 lb ball when I've been using a 16 for years...

I use Legends by Lane Masters. This stuff really pulls the oil out and there is only one pro-shop in Hawaii that sold it but stopped just before 4th of July in 2005. When I asked why, he said because he was getting alot of complaints about the smell. I then told him if they didn't like the smell, why buy it. He then told me it wasn't the buyers, it was the people around. So now gotta look for it on the internet:cool:

Just a figure of speech. This stuff really cleans deep, even the Energizer didn't come close. This stuff had a nice citrus smell
