Need some help here.

Just got back into bowling after a 7 year falling out. (needed two knee replacements)

Anyhow, my old school bowling style is not working. Used to I could throw on the 4th dot on the left side, push through the center arrow and snap right into the pocket at the last minute.
With new knees and Diesel particle ball I am having to throw 4th dot on the RIGHT side, hanging the gutter and then still coming into the pocket on the back side. Has that much changed in lanes and balls in 7 years??

I really want to be able to have massive hook (snap) at the very end and not having to hang the gutter to come into the pocket. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am using the wrong ball?

More info: I am bowling at a Brunswick zone alley and to me the lanes seem to be for the most part light-medium oil but again this was a 7 year old evaluation.

I would really like to get back to my old style of bowling but with this ball and the lanes I normally bowl at it's just not working. What is the standard technique these days?

thanks for any help or advice.

The Diesel Particle is a hook monster. Saying that your probably just having a muscle memory lapse after being out for seven years. Also having bad knees can't help but to hinder your release. There may also be more oil on the lanes than your able to read, or a new sport pattern, ask someone behind the desk what oil pattern they're using or a knowledgeable person near you.

You can pick up more revvs and or hook with the following:

1. Slow down your ball speed by holding the ball lower in your starting approach. Like around your belt/waist area.
2. Cock your wrist in the beginning of your approach.
3. Get your thumb out asap, by the time ball pases your ankle. Use the power of your ring finger instead of middle finger to generate more revvs.
4. Have the ball redrilled in a stronger layout. Or add a balance hole about 3.375" below the PAP vertical axis line. The bigger the hole the earlier the turn.
5. Move your feet and target right to compensate for the oil (assuming your a righty, if lefty move left.)
6. Change the coverstock surface...resurface the ball down to about 600 grit. If it hooks too much go to about 800...not enough go down to 400 grit.

You have to be more clear on what you're looking for. One can't have the best of both worlds (early hook with big back end). If you want to play inside thrid arrow I suggest you drill a Big Block Diesel. The reactive coverstock will help you gain more backend angle.
With such a serious injury, you may not be able to throw the big hook ball as before but with the new equipment you can throw the strong strike ball without the big hook.

The Real Deal will be the closest thing to the type of reaction you are looking for. If you put the pin above the fingers and keep it vertical to the cg and put some factory finish polish, you should get much closer to what you are looking for. The Diesel particle is an arching rolling ball, you are looking for more flip. The Turbo Diesel is also a good choice, I would scuff that one though, it gets really long with the polish on it.

Okay bowled again and am feeling much better about it.
Basically moved my stance to the back line and added some speed to my throw. Think it's starting to come back now and am feeling more confident.

Thanks everyone for the tips :)
