Some advice

Alright, now i currently have a Black Widow which i got around November...never resurfaced it but i do put it in a bath regularly and i got the oil baked out of it at my pro shop once. It still has the hook, but its loosing its hitting power. I bowl really good with it one night, then the next time i take it out its like dead or just not consistent. I found out that lately ive been bowling the 1st game with my BW, then about half way through the 2nd game i take out my Toxic and bowl with that the rest of the time. I really like my BW a ton. I currently have a PSP on ebay that i want to sell to pick up the Black Widow Pearl. Now, if that PSP does sell and i buy the BWP, should i look into getting a new BW also? Or just take it to my proshop and see what he can do with it? Its also looking a bit beat up with some scratches in the track and an ugly ring around the ball. Ill post pics tomorrow.

You say that one night it is consistant and the other it isn't. Are you using it in the PBA Experience league? Those patterns and sport patterns themselves change very rapidly, mainly from ball to ball. I wouldn't make any rash decisions just yet for this Black Widow. Now, if your PSP does sell, then for sure pick up a Black Widow Pearl. Until then, wait for doing anything on your Black Widow.

About resurfacing a Black Widow: I resurfaced mine, and the day after I had my league. Down to 1000 grit I threw the first 8 and then a 9 spare and struck out for 279. Then the second game I threw the first 9, then left a 3-6 and struck for a 278. Third game was a 225. The ball acted like it was brand new. Strong continuation and absolutely beautiful arc to the pocket.

I would recommend doing something like that before anything else. Who knows, it definitely gave my Black Widow about 200 more games.

It is not in a PBA league. I am in one, but it does act pretty good in that league. This is about my 2 other adult leagues that i'm in. It just doesn't have the consistency like it once did...

In your situation I'm not sure I would buy a BWP until you figure out what's going on with your BW. That would leave you with three pearls.


Are you sure it's the ball and not the lane conditions? I noticied two things in your post.

1. BW still hooking but no carry = sounds like it's rolling out
BW game 1, Toxic 2 and 3 = dry heads

There is a lot more open bowling in the summer at my local center. Unless your league runs the lanes right before league chances are the shot is a crap shoot. If the heads are dry your BW might be losing energy and hitting flat. Your Toxic should be better on dry heads and is seems to be the case.

2. Doing okay in the PBA heads= more oil
Chances are you're getting a fresh oil in this league. If you ball was dead it would be dead in all your leagues.

Take the cover down to about 600. Then give it a hot water bath. Then take the cover back up to whatever you had it at in increments. IE 600, 800, 1000...and so on. Then try it again. I think you will be surprised.

Yeah, i get what ur saying. Usually i bowl on fresh oil in my leagues. The alleys aren't that busy during the summer and they usually keep them as much possible away from the league lanes. What i was thinking is in my Tuesdday adult/youth, most of the people throw straight balls. And that will change the oil in different spots a good bit and i'm just not adjusting enough. Also in my Thursday league, i am in C division (which i can't stand) and some but not all of the bowlers throw a straight ball also.
