BWP came back ball return with gouge in it during third game last night. The gouge is about 3 inches below thumb hole, and about a 1/2 inch blobbish shape. Basically it looks like it got caught between belt and something hard somewhere between the pins and the return and all the "pearl" came off. It looks to me as though it could come into play, in that it is a little toward left side of ball near track.

Showed it to the night manager and she said the proshop would "take care of it." Basically, I expect they will sand it and polish it.

I have had little nicks and marks put on a ball before. This is actually a chunk of the cover that came off.

ONCE I noticed this I threw 2-3 really bad shots and opened a couple times. I was really upset. Then I was able to get a couple of strikes, but, I could not get the gouge out of my mind. Basically, 1st night using ball and ......:(

Thats what happened to my sling blade the first night i got it! the pro shop just "patched it up" and gave it back to me. Stroke of bad luck right there! and it is very dissapointing, thinking what if it happens again EVERY time i go bowling now!

POST PICS!! PLEASE

That sucks. At least it could have made it for a few weeks.

On the other hand. Depending on how deep it is, the pro shop will use super glue or plug to fill the hole. Then polish it back up. You'll hardly even notice it when its done.

I just called proshop and they said they fixed it and it is ready to go. I will report back, however, my sense is that it will be fine.

Yeah, it is too bad it happened so soon. I probably have thrown it less than 50 shots.

Picked up ball from pro shop. It is totally shiny and polished again. However, I can still see where gouge was. No big deal. I do not think it will effect play or my mindset while using it.

It will work out. I had the same thing happen to my Toxic. It was not the first night but 2 days later on my next league night.

First tournament I used my Black Widow Solid and the ball came back from the back with a gouge about 3/4 inch long and about 1/8 of an inch deep. It occured in about the 8th game and I had the last 7 strikes in a row coming to the 10th frame, first shot, strike, then the gouge, then 9/. It was right out of my track, about two inches up from the fingers and and inch and a half to the left. Really pissed me off, so I took it to the proprietor and they said to get it done and have the bill mailed to them. Brand new and the only ball that I had that day that would be able to handle a sport pattern like the one that we were facing that day. Very destructive.

manthat sucks! hopefully "take care of it" means they'll replace it. back in the day when that happened to me, my proshop would replace the ball if it was bad enough. but can't wait to hear how it comes back.

Let me tell you how the BWP worked today in local USBC tournament. 254, 255 and 171 for 680 series. Lanes broke down a little in last game otherwise I could have strolled in for 700.

This ball rocks. That ball goes long and then then slaps those pins silly.:D

I won 2 side pots and did pretty well in brackets too.

Great thing was that there was a presentation before the tournament where I was presented with 11 in a row plaque for 279 game I shot back in April. Great day. Did not win tournament because of third game and because partner was off of her game. Once I get more used to this ball and can make the 3rd game adjustment, watch out.

All in all one of best bowling days ever.

So, it sounds like the infamous gouge as finally been destoryed? Great to hear. What did the proshop do with it, fill it with epoxy or just sand and buff it out?

It looks like epoxy and then sand and polish. Its like a discoloration or beauty mark. No big deal, now.

Sounds like your luck was worse than mine. Got two solid flesh wounds on my BWP also. Glad your ball is still okay. My White Dot really got wounded, had to resurface it Friday before I left for the Alley.

You said, that it was below the thumb correct? The only thing that I can think of is maybe one ring of oil slightly leading over the patched spot. Otherwise, sounds like your BWP is almost as good as new!:D

Hey TenPinSniper,

How long does it take and how much is it to have your ball sanded to 1000? if i bring my BW original out of the box finish to this will it give me any more hook?

I'm sure the prices varies from place to place but the pro shop here charges $5 for a basic surface change.

Sanding your BW to 1000 will increase the total number of boards crossed and make it react ealier and less angular at the breakpoint.

Sorry about the gouge DW. Glad they took care of it for you, I'm sure you'll be rolling it like you did before the damage was done. That 800 is coming up this fall. After all your sport practice, you're going to rape the house pattern!:D

Thanks Slap...

Taking a ball down is grit is much easier than going up in grit, neither is to hard. It's just a time issue.

Like Slap said you will probably cover a couple more boards. But I really look at it that way,but more as a reaction or break point change. Then lets sand the ball down to get more hook.
