Help me please, I have sooo many balls I'm confused.
Ok now I'm serious...our recents topics on layouts, arsenals and the like forced me to sit down over the weekend and evaluate my gear. I also read a pretty good article about the benefit of putting things down on paper.
Next season I'll be bowling in two leagues. One is a second shot league on a house pattern and the second is a sport shot league. More on that later
My notes are a few pages long so go grab a beer. I welcome all thoughts and opinions. Thanks in advance to anyone who reads this whole thing...
Heavy
No Mercy #8, pin in middle finger, 5" pin to pap, Hart under thumb
Flare: high Midlane read:strong Backend:strong Motion: strong-arc/slight snap
Preferred lines: (swing) (straight up boards)
Surface Experiments: 4000 2000 polished 2000 1000
WMB pin under 4 1/2 x 3 3/4
Flare:low Midlane read: strong Backend:small Motion:s-arc
Preferred lines: (straight up boards)
Surface Experiments: 1000+matte polish ~1200 500 360
Thoughts:
Both of these balls eat up oil. With a Strong reactive and heavy load particle, I'm fully covered here. The ball motions are very different. The particle is smoother down the lane. Unless I know I'm facing a heavy condition I doubt I would carry both of these at once. I prefer the NM at 4000 or 2000 and the WMB at 360.
Medium Heavy
AR pin under, 4 1/2 x 3 3/4
Flare:medium Midlane read:med Backend:med Motion:s-arc
Preferred lines: (small swing) (straight up boards)
Surface Experiments: compound 1000 500
AR Asy flip, 4 1/4 X 5 1/4, pin 1 1/2 inside val, MB in thumb hole
Flare: medium-high Midlane read: small Backend:strong Motion: s/s
Preferred lines: (swing)
Surface Experiments: compound 1000 500
Thoughts:
Two particle pearls that are very versatile. At 500 they over more boards than both the NM and WMB. (yes I'm serious) OOB is a compound finish that is about 2000 abralon. At this level they work well as medium, medium heavy balls. On a fresh shot I can play anywhere but as the lanes change I need to move in with the oil. As a lefty, generally that's never more than a few boards. The layouts give these balls very different reactions. The pin under ball reads the midlane more, moves ealiers and arcs hard into the pocket. The flip drill ball goes very very long and breaks hard into the pocket. I can see myself carrying both of these at the same time depending on the situation.
The motions of these balls compliments heavier the NM and WMB so it's a pretty nice step down. I want to try both of these at 2000 polished or 4000 to see the reaction. Chances are I'll keep them close to OOB. Compound is a pain so 2000 abralon will be close enough.
Medium and Medium light are next...
