Help me please, I have sooo many balls I'm confused.

Ok now I'm serious...our recents topics on layouts, arsenals and the like forced me to sit down over the weekend and evaluate my gear. I also read a pretty good article about the benefit of putting things down on paper.

Next season I'll be bowling in two leagues. One is a second shot league on a house pattern and the second is a sport shot league. More on that later

My notes are a few pages long so go grab a beer. I welcome all thoughts and opinions. Thanks in advance to anyone who reads this whole thing...

Heavy
No Mercy #8, pin in middle finger, 5" pin to pap, Hart under thumb
Flare: high Midlane read:strong Backend:strong Motion: strong-arc/slight snap
Preferred lines: (swing) (straight up boards)
Surface Experiments: 4000 2000 polished 2000 1000

WMB pin under 4 1/2 x 3 3/4
Flare:low Midlane read: strong Backend:small Motion:s-arc
Preferred lines: (straight up boards)
Surface Experiments: 1000+matte polish ~1200 500 360

Thoughts:
Both of these balls eat up oil. With a Strong reactive and heavy load particle, I'm fully covered here. The ball motions are very different. The particle is smoother down the lane. Unless I know I'm facing a heavy condition I doubt I would carry both of these at once. I prefer the NM at 4000 or 2000 and the WMB at 360.

Medium Heavy
AR pin under, 4 1/2 x 3 3/4
Flare:medium Midlane read:med Backend:med Motion:s-arc
Preferred lines: (small swing) (straight up boards)
Surface Experiments: compound 1000 500

AR Asy flip, 4 1/4 X 5 1/4, pin 1 1/2 inside val, MB in thumb hole
Flare: medium-high Midlane read: small Backend:strong Motion: s/s
Preferred lines: (swing)
Surface Experiments: compound 1000 500

Thoughts:
Two particle pearls that are very versatile. At 500 they over more boards than both the NM and WMB. (yes I'm serious) OOB is a compound finish that is about 2000 abralon. At this level they work well as medium, medium heavy balls. On a fresh shot I can play anywhere but as the lanes change I need to move in with the oil. As a lefty, generally that's never more than a few boards. The layouts give these balls very different reactions. The pin under ball reads the midlane more, moves ealiers and arcs hard into the pocket. The flip drill ball goes very very long and breaks hard into the pocket. I can see myself carrying both of these at the same time depending on the situation.
The motions of these balls compliments heavier the NM and WMB so it's a pretty nice step down. I want to try both of these at 2000 polished or 4000 to see the reaction. Chances are I'll keep them close to OOB. Compound is a pain so 2000 abralon will be close enough.

Medium and Medium light are next...

Medium
BW 4" pin-pap, MB strong
Flare: High Midlane read: small-med Backend: med Motion: s-arc
Preferred lines: (swing) (straight up boards)
Surface Experiments: 4000 2000 polished 2000 1000

TX pin under, ~4 1/2" pin-pap
Flare: small-med Midlane read: small Backend: med-strong Motion: s/s
Preferred lines: (swing) (straight up boards)
Surface Experiments: 4000 2000 polished 2000 1000

Thoughts:
I have nice balance here with two strong balls, one drilled strong and one drilled fairly weak. Both balls have good length one with a strong arc motion and the other skid snap. The Toxic has been my most tempermental ball. I didn't match up well OOB, the ball skidded for ever. Finally at 800 polished it's perfect on a medium shot. My BW is my benchmark ball, I can throw it a number of ways. I preferred it at 2000 polished but with the BWP coming it will go back to 4000.

With the arrival of the BWP things may shift around here. I'm predicting the BWP will be too strong for a sport shot. I considered selling my Toxic but I decided to wait until I test out the BWP. Another option so it bring the surface of the Toxic back until the reaction works on medium-light.

Almost done...

BV leverage, ~4" pin-pap
Flare: med Midlane read: small Backend: med Motion: s-arc
Preferred lines: (swing) (straight up boards)
Surface Experiments: 4000 2000 polished 2000 1000

Slap I noticed you said that with the BWP things may change. Why make a move NOW?Wait until you have the BWP dialed in and THEN see what ya got.The picture should probably be clearer for you then.

Think we are both thinking the samething. You have just put your to words. Kept mine basic still.

My line up going into next season...

NMB
NM--Maybe some polish??
BWP--Dull it 4000 or 2000P, make it more predictable
High Rev--Been a good ball for a while
Vicious--Will be left at home most nights
Switch Blade--Not sure how often will bring this ball to league
White Dot

Something I think about is polishing my NM, dulling the BWP...

*** Some of you have the BW line, mine is the NM line... Might need to work on some drier lane stuff or bring out some older Faball stuff. Sledge Hammer(Mica) and Nail.***

My worry is on the dry side... but like I said I have old stuff. Now if I sneak them all to NC... :D

I'm just thinking ahead. I'm picking up my BWP on thursday so the "testing" will begin after that. On paper I just see the BWP and potentially filling the same slot , under my BW. That said I doubt they will react the same, I predict the BWP will be a lot more angular.

Medium Light
BV leverage, ~4" pin-pap
Flare: med Midlane read: small Backend: med Motion: s-arc
Preferred lines: (swing) (straight up boards)
Surface Experiments: 4000 2000 polished 2000 1000[/QUOTE]

Thoughts: My Blue Vibe is drilled too strong to be a true dry lane but OOB it's not quite a medium ball either. At 2000/2000 polished this ball is great on a fresh medium shot. 4000 polished seems to be right for medium-light duty.

Evaluation
Heavy to medium-heavy looks good to me.

Medium is my roughest spot. I really need to work out how every thing relates. All the parts are there, I just to fit them togheter

Medium-light. I only have one ball in this slot  I think the BV is more than capable

Light/Dry: No balls for this. My choices are swing the BV or throw the blue dot . I'm okay with this for now.

All together now!
League #1- 2nd shift house shot. The lanes are pretty broken down for this league. Probably medium volume with significant carry down. Last season my best look was with my BW polished at 2000.

I ordered the BWP specifically for this league, I think this ball will be a monster on this condition. If I run into trouble I predict it will be from a lack of oil vs too much. So I think the BV and BWP plus a spare will do it.

League #2 -fresh sport condition with rotating patterns. This will be my first year in this league so it's premature for me to pick balls but I'm gong to do it anyway.;) Until I get a feel for the shot I'll bring 5 or 6. It's a major league so I doubt if I will look out of place...lol

This is what I consider a balanced 5+1
