For some reason my ring finger is always hurting, especially at the 2nd knuckle. I don't have any problems anywhere else, and I believe my balls are drilled/fitted properly. Has anyone had this issue? I just don't know what might be causing it.

Do you have grips or conventional? I haVe heard of people using both to injure their middle/ring finger. Try taking a couple days off and letting it rest, if it's not better then, drag yourself to the doctor to make sure there isn't any ligament damage.

Everything I have is fingertip w/ grips. I am not bowling again until practice on Sunday, so maybe some rest will help.

Does it hurt more when you bend the finger?

Yeah... A little bit, but not really a significant increase.

Time to get your hand checked out.First by a Doc,then by a pro shop.

Uggh... I was afraid of that. I have only been bowling since the beginning of May and already having problems... Not promising.

Hey transltr;

I had problems like that before, (about 2 weeks ago) my ring finger (TIP) would get super sore, get really cold and turn dark red and sometimes blue.

proshop tried to tell me that I was working to hard to give the ball hook, and I was twisting my hand, (somehow) and my middle finger and thumb were coming out, bt my ring finger wasnt, and it was getting all the stress from the balls weight.

I kept having to quit after 2 games because of that and it hurt like a biotch. So when i got my black widow from another pro shop he told me that my finger tip inserts were 2 sizes too small. and he changed themfor me and it solved the whole problem.

Try increasing the size of your fingertip inserts. This worked for me.

Could be your fingers just aren't used to it yet. You know, like when you work out and then get sore...:confused: I Hope that's all it is.

AHA!NOW we have something to work with!Are you trying to put a ton of lift on the ball at release?Your fingers aren't used to being side loaded.They are used to working forward and backwards.Take it easy on the release for awhile,go to Wal-Mart and get some of those dollar squeeze balls and start getting your fingers in shape.Get the ones that look like a baseball or a yellow golf ball.Toy section.Put it BETWEEN two fingers and try to pull the fingers together.That will build up your hand so you can put more lift on the ball.If you're using inserts get them checked.Make sure you can get enough finger in there!Last but not least,try using your HAND to get the revs on your ball,not just the fingers.Remember,once your hand is in shape,if it hurts,you're doing something wrong!

i agree with James here. if you twist your wrist/hand upon release, the ring finger knuckle (sometimes the pinky finger too) hits the ball and creates friction thus causing the soreness. this is aggravated when you increase the speed and pressure upon release. i used to have this also and one time i noticed blood under the nail of my pinky.

i suggest to read tip 20 at:

i made slight adjustments on my release and it doesn't bother me anymore.

Thanks for all the responses! I think everyone is correct. I did have an issue with my ring finger grip on the Pain a few weeks ago. It was a little snug, but that has been fixed. Even my wrist is sore, not hurting, just sore. I was thinking that maybe it was just my body not being used to the motion used in bowling and that I just needed time to get my wrist and fingers stronger. I will give the ball exercise that Rowdy suggested to see if that helps in strengthening.
