Was looking at balls on one of those internet outfits and they had a Black Widow spare ball.Pancake inside, looks just like a bws except right under the words "Black Widow" it says "Spare".Is this thing legit?

Silly question, but isn't the Hammer Tuff good enough? I know it's saved my BWS from many a gouge when going after 10 pins...plus my conversion percentage has gone way up since getting the Tuff. Not sure why we're pushing to get another Hammer spare ball...but then again, I've been away from the game since winter league ended.

Tuff and the BW Spare are pretty much the same core & coverstock...same polyester ball.
of course i haven't seen an actual BW spare...just by the description.

Biggest reason we want another hammer spare is because the Tuff is discontinued. On another note...I want that Hammer Devil!

It is good enough, but it has been discontinued. I am lucky I found mine right before the 15# supply started drying up.

Is the issue that you simply can't get one? Or that the cost of getting one is cost prohibitive? Or not USBC approved?

Looks exactly like a BWS,just the extra word "spare"on it.I'd like to have it just so ALL the balls in the bag looked the same.Ain't sayin' the Tuff isn't a good ball, just don't like the look of it.Cosmetic deal.Just would be cool to pull THREE Widows out of the bag!THAT would make some people stop and look for sure!

There ya go! Instead of flesh eating venom, the tag line could be, "The new Hammer Brown Recluse...it's pin eating venom can't be stopped!"
Bummer about the Tuff being discontinued. Odd that a bowling ball manufacturer dosn't have a spare ball in it's line up. Hmmmmm

Yeah, before Hammer announced the BWP for release in the states, I got my hands on the approved ball list back in February. I was looking it over and saw the Black Widow... and the BW Pearl, BW Spare and BW HARV. I think I searched the internet for a good 10 hours solid looking for a site that carried them for sale :p

I've been informed by "The Man" himself that the international releases will not be released here in the US. The reason why those balls are on the USBC approved list is because the USBC is the governing body of bowling for the US (as recognized by the United States Olympic Committee). Thanks Slapper! So in order for the balls to be used in tournaments/leagues (overseas), they are put on the list. Don't expect these releases to hit US soil unless 1) You pay to have it shipped internationally, 2) some foreigner brings it over or 3) "The Man" changes his mind.:)
the USBC is the governing body of bowling for the world
cough....bull shite....cough cough
What is USBC?
The United States Bowling Congress officially launched Jan. 1, 2005, as the organization to serve amateur adult and youth bowlers in the United States. It resulted from the merger of the American Bowling Congress, Women's International Bowling Congress, Young American Bowling Alliance and USA Bowling. Today, USBC serves more than three million members.
USBC is the national governing body for bowling as recognized by the United States Olympic Committee.
USBC will stand for values that include: credibility, dedication, excellence, heritage, inclusiveness, integrity, philanthropy and sportsmanship
European Tenpin Bowling Federation- runs European Bowling Tour
British Tenpin Bowling Association - official body of Tenpin bowling in the UK
And then there is also the World Tenpin Bowling Association.
the second part of your post is correct. all balls used in a World Tenpin Bowling Association event must be usbc approved.

Thanks Slap. I believe the question was why are certain balls on the USBC approved list but not available in the U.S.? I'm not doubting your research... good job by the way. I am aware of all those other bowling bodies you mentioned, but what does that have to with the question that was posed?
The European Bowling Tour is similar to the Professional Bowlers Association Tour, not the USBC.
The World Tenpin Bowling Association consists of the USBC, which uses the USBC's approved ball list as you and I mentioned.
The British Tenpin Association is equivalent to the USBC but correct me if I am wrong, the USBC approved ball list is also used unless the British have their own ball manufacturers?? Chances are they use US manufacturers equipment, like Hammer for example!
Is that a catball in your throat?

Well, just think, if you can get them, you should be able to use it. It's the same reason y a lot of the asian bowlers, can use our equipment. Sure they can get their own balls their, but some of them have our equipment and they are able to use it. But also, if any foreign bowlers come here to bowl competitively, they should be able to use it, they shouldn't have to buy new equipment.

Absolutely nothing. My post was a direct reply to your statement that USBC is the worldwide governing body.
The European Bowling Tour is similar to the Professional Bowlers Association Tour, not the USBC.
I did not imply that it was, but agreed.

I was able to find documentation on the WTBA website not I did have much luck on the BTA site.

Gentlemen, I have been in touch with a regional distributor of Hammer. He has assured me on two different occassions that the BW spare will be released in a "few" weeks. I e-mailed him back just to confirm we were talking the BWS and not the BWP. He answered in the affimative. The only question is the definition of "few". Also, I have seen a picture of it on one of the net stores, but I can't remember which one. It did not give any specifications, just a pic.
