Hi

Ive just got a switch blade as my first ball in graduating from straight bowling. I hope its going to be a good ball to learn how to hook with or at least thats what ive been told.

Im a bit stuck with what ill need to let the person who does my drilling know.

I know there are many ways to drill a ball depending on what you want it to do. The 1st problem is that i dont really know what i want it to do as i have never hooked a ball before and im starting out with it. It will also be my first time with a fingertip grip.

Ive read that i should let the driller know the following:

1. Ball Speed (i dont know exactly but i would say about medium)
2. Axis Rotation (Havnt a clue)
3. Axis Tilt (Dito)
4. Lane conditions (Medium dry to medium)

The thing is we havnt got a pro shop in our bowling alley and the person who drills our balls locally knows his stuff but works from home so he wont have seen me bowl to know these things.

Just a bit confused with the whole proccess really

If you ask, maybe the driller will come watch you. It is very hard to tell someone how to drill a ball without no knowledge of how they throw it. A good medium hook drill that should roll consistent is have the pin either above or below the ring finger a bit, then put the cg off to the right at about a 60 degree angle. If the lanes are more to the dry, I would go above the finger to help it get down the lane. With the CG off to 60 degrees it will transition smoothly and not be too jumpy. This will allow some room for error. You can then scuff the surface if you need to smooth the transition more or add a little hook. If you need to help the ball go even straighter, use the ebonite extender polish.

I hope this helps
