View Full Version : Threw the BWP for the first time tonight

First of all, the BWP has amazing power when it hits the pins. I got mine drill with a smooth arc layout. I love the way the ball moved and crushed the pins. The only problem was that I couldn't get any of my balls in the pocket if I tried tonight. The strikes I did get were normally ones where I got lucky or missed my mark. I shot a game in the 150's and two games in the 130's. :( I felt like crying. I feel so depressed right now it isn't funny. Three weeks ago my average was 205 and now it is down to 194 at a place where I should average at least a 210. I just keep getting the feeling that I will never snap out of it. This is also depressing me because bowling is about the only thing that I care to do in life. Aside from my family, bowling is the only thing that I care about in life and I feel like I am not good at it. On the bright side I took the surface of my Black Widow down to 1000 and the thing is moving like it did when I first got it. I just can't wait to use the BWP when I'm not struggling. My mom tells me that I think and worry about stuff and how/what I'm doing while I bowl. She keeps telling me to just go up there and just throw the ball. Another thing is that the ball doesn't come off of my hand the way it used to, and it also doesn't feel right when I throw it. The only thing I can think of doing is going bowling to practice until I get out of this funk. All this other stuff aside though, I love the BWP.

I feel your pain! I just did 4 games of open bowling today with my brand new BWP, and let me tell you, I was really struggling. I was doing so badly that my 10 year old son beat me in the second game 111-118! Talk about BAD!!!! No matter what I did, I just was having the most difficult time hitting the pocket AND picking up spares! I did not want to change ball since I really wanted to get used to it and break it in, but man, I was really frustrated and beating my self up! In the 4th game I finally got a 200 with the first 5 being strikes, but after that, I started going downhill again, thank goodness it was my last game. I can say one thing, when this ball hits the pocket, man, it just crushes the pins. The problem today was just finding the pocket. Hopefully it's because I was doing 4 hours of yard work in the hot sun before going to the alley, well that's my excuse anyway. ;)

Crusher:

You probably had a timing issue or other flaw in your shot that you were unable to diagnose.

Although you control almost all variables make sure to listen to what the new ball and newly sanded ball as well as the lanes are telling you.

On thing I learned when I had my swing analyed at Reno is that consistency of speed, release, and hitting the target are all tied to score. Last night you may have been hitting your target, but at differing speeds leading to differing results. Same thing with combination of variables. Relax. Summer league does not even count on your permanent record and is a time to work on things, like getting a new ball or sanding an old one.

Thanks guys. I'm going to practice today to try and get out of this slump. It was so weird because about a month ago I was shooting 650+ like three weeks in a row in league and then all of a sudden I just went downhill. I was like a Barry Zito curve ball, I was going up, up, up, and then just dropped straight down. Good news is that I may have finally gotten rid of my Absolute Inferno, but nothing is definate yet. A guy may trade me his Hawg Zilla for my Absolute. But like I said, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Don't worry about your score while practicing. Don't even look. Watch the ball and pins and you will get the idea of what the score might be. Work at your timing and relase

Crusher, in bowling like in life, there will be good times and bad times. The key is persevere through the bad times and work towards the good times.

I agree with Bubba 100% don't even login a game next time you practice. Just throw the ball and worry about how it feels and hitting your marks. Oh and maybe practice any spares you leave...

Crusher, do you think how you said that the ball doesn't feel right when coming off your hand could be a result in using too much mustle in the pushaway and backswing?

Thanks. I'm going to go practice right now. I'll let you guys know how I do when I come back. I'm only gonna bring my BW and BWP though cause I don't feel like lugging around the whole 6 ball bag.

Crusher, it sounds like it is part of your mental game that is suffering. By far that is the hardest thing to conquer in any sport. So, I have a suggestion. go to your local bookstore or Barnes and Noble and look for a book called The Inner Game of Tennis. By the way your mom says about you thinking too much when you bowl, could be the issue. I used to have to problem as well but once I started reading through the book, then I was able to assess what I was doing wrong. There are two main things in that book that describe your problem: Self 1 - mental self, the one who is criticizing yourself; and Self 2 - the physical self, the one who does the actions.

I would recommend this book to anyone who seems to struggle with their game. I used it after the high school league was done because I was struggling with what was going on when I didn't practice as much , and it really helped a ton.

good luck Crusher, and don't pass this up.

Thanks. Next time I go to the book store I'll check it out.

I just got back from practice. I shot about 9 or 10 games. I am starting to come around I believe. I was shooting games in the 180-210 range aside from the first game which was only a 120 something but that was only practice and a 150 game that I used a 6 pound a couple of frames to rest my thumb. I also noticed that the ball felt better and my release felt better. My approach felt better. I also wasn't thinking when I would throw the ball. All I would do was look at my mark and make sure that I kept my hand behind the ball. Yesterday for some reason I had trouble keeping my eyes on my mark and throwing the ball correctly, but today everything seemed nice and smooth. I also found this patch stuff for my thumb so I can bowl without my thumb bothering me. I'm going back tomorrow to have my mom watch me to see if I'm doing anything wrong.

Yeah right, like I'll ever give that thing up. I can't believe how hard it hits the pins. The BWP hits harder than the BW. It's unreal.

They don't know much about bowling, pretty much only stuff I have told them. My dad doesn't notice anything or can't really give my any advice, but my mom can notice if I slow my ball speed down, if I'm releasing the ball weird, or if my form is weird and not right, and a few other things.

You don't think I've been trying to find a girl? It's kinda hard when you drive your dads mini van and your moms old chevy blazer with a stupid penguin seat cover, ugh. Also I have been homeschooled my whole life so I can't really find a girl at school. :p

Well that sucks in two ways. U have to drive a soccer mom van and u've been homschooled.

TBQH... what you drive has no bearing on finding/having a girlfriend... and but the homeschooling I can understand.

Both of those have fold down rear seats:eek: right;)
I've got no help for the homeschooling, it might be great for education but socializing i dunno:confused:

And thats part of the reason I refuse to charter/home school my kids. I don't believe in "sheltering" them from LIFE. There's a difference between getting a good education and being prepared for life, and you can get both of these things in public school ;) I mean seriously... your tax dollars are paying for it, you may as well use it.

But anyway... that has nothing to do with bowling but it's my 2 cents.

If you're going to shoot for that make sure you never get layed. If you do, it's all downhill from there. The chase begins but never ends.

I been trying to get used to my Black Widow Pearl, but the ball is so strong on the back that it over hooks. I keep moving left ( i usually throw up the 2nd arrow) but I keep going brooklyn until I reach the point that it doesn't recover. I finally decided to polish the ball with Bean's Sauce to make it go longer, so I'll see how it goes tomorrow if I get a chance to go.

How do u like the secret sauce?

07-27-2007, 03:02 AM
Personally, I like it! It is very easy to use, either by spinner or by hand, but I use an automotive orbital car polisher, and have hade very good results. The ball gets very shiny, and it gives the ball more length, but in my opinion, does not affect the back-end in a bad way. Hopefully the extra length will help.

I have not tried many ball polishes, so I cannot say this polish is better than that one, but Bean's is a really good product. Easy to use, buffs off easily, leaves a beautiful shine, and the ball still has a tacky feel to it. Try and check the Beansproshop.com website for more information. You can even email Bean's and ask him for a free sample, just pay like 3 bucks for shipping and he'll send it to you and it should be enough to polish like 6 balls, depending on how much sauce you use, and you don't need much. You can keep using the same polish cloth and after a few balls, you can just add a little water and keep using it. A little goes a long way.
