We've hollered all about one.But what exactly do YOU consider to be a "House Shot"?

Any pattern that is laid with the intent on "guiding" the ball towards the pocket.

Kinda like skeet shooting.you load the house in the thrower...when it goes flying in the air..take a crack at it with a 12 gauge...thats my definition. House Shot

I consider a house shot to be an amount of oil in any volume then a lower volume of oil on the outside so that if u miss right, it hooks back but if u miss left it will hold.

So if I'm getting this right,if there's a shot where there's aLOT of oil on the outside, but light up the middle,is this a house shot?

More oil in the middle than the outside. It tappers off on the way to the 10 board then really starts to thin out from there on. Someone had a graphic of what different shots look like, hold on a sec...

Here we go:
In short a reverse block is a transitional pattern, caused by straight balls pushing oil down the center of the lane. It's signature is dry centers, and wet outsides.
Like a true flood, it's a pattern rarely seen outside of longer events but often mis identified. From my understanding you need to start with a relatively flat pattern to transition into a reverse block. Generally speaking a THS has too much oil in the center of the lane to transition into a reverese block. Also it's uncommon for a large number of straight bowlers to enter an event with a challenging flat pattern.

The block pattern is going to be THS. Maybe a little of the Christmas Tree action.

AHA!Slap and Brad, thanx for the pics.A reverse block seems to be the pattern I see the most around here.Does rhat make it a "house shot" or not? They do change them, but the reverse is about what I see about half the time.

I thought a "House Shot" was the oil pattern that any particular bowling center or "House", decides to lay down as it's normal every day pattern that it has set on it's lane machines. That pattern obviously differs from center to center. I figured a center could determine it's own "House Pattern" or "Shot".
I try to bowl at at least three different centers in my area for just that purpose. They all have different House Patterns. It keeps me versatile.

I have heard it refered to as Adult Bumper Bowling because there is friction near the gutters and the ball will come back, even my pathetic excuse for a hook. A ball that would get way out of shape but come back due to the friction near the gutter on a house shot will fall straight into the gutter on a sport shot.

At the house I have one league at, they told me it is 41' of oil gutter to gutter. They use one of those new Kegel Ion machines. (I think I spelled that right).

WOW-I am so lost my eyes are crossing. I get some of it but dang it all,How do you look at the lane and see the oil on it?

Same up here rowdy. There is one house here that puts out a different house shot than a reverse block. And its a wet/dry condition.

THS. Typical House Shot.
I think most people do not think they actually play on "THS". Blocked and forgiving. Sense of unlimited room to miss left and right of target and not very speed sensitive.

I used to think there was a lot of oil on the lane during regular league until I played in the PBA experience and watched my ball go straight and take out the 10 pin or go into the right getter in a perfectly straight line.

Depends on what pattern. Scorpion and shark don't hook a lot naturally because of the length.

I hate them with a passion. Thats my centers house shot. I would rather bowl on bone dry lanes that that.

I'd like to bowl on a reverse block, just to say I have bowled on one... It has to be the most annoying pattern i've bowled on. I averaged the same on the scorpion pattern thatn what i do on the reverse block.

Please explain what ball would do on your reverse block if you stood on 5 and threw the ball right up the first arrow?
Same Q if you stood on 10 and threw up 10?
Same Q 15 up 15?
If you stand at 20 and hit 8 is the ball in the gutter?

right down 5- inferno at 600, skid and hit the 3 pin.
10-10 with inferno at 600- go high and usually leave 3-6-10. Passion at 1000- 10 back.
15 up 15- inferno at 600 brooklyn. Passion at 1000- 3-6-10
20-8 with inferno would be in the gutter.

Yeah i know. I think if i learned to get more revs on the ball. I would be able to make more area because if i miss outside of 10 right now, it won't make it back. Maybe if i had more revs it would more often.

I agree with Josh on this one. There is also a common characterisitc of house patterns: they normally have a ratio of oil in the middle to the outsides of at least 8:1

Pain: I wonder if you can find out how long the pattern is that you are bowling on. Maybe you are getting outside too soon. Anyway, sounds like your house shot is harder than the PBA Experience. Shallow water Shark. Deep oil on the outside and beach in the middle. There has to be a transition point somewhere you can bounce off.

I think my house might be like a 5:8 ratio. Does that mean that it might be like sport pattern

Pain if you want the revs, move the thumb on those balls. It'll give your fingers a better pivot point than where it is now.

I LOVE reverse blocks!
They are by far one of the best patterns I bowl on. My lowest series is a 684. Playing on a reverse block near the end of MJBTs really do help quite a bit, and using the good ole Track Arsenal Aggressive. Pulled me out of holes aplenty over the course of this last season.

If i miss to 8 it sometimes comes back. If i miss right a board or two it will hold because every body on my team bowls right down ten because were all strokers. Were the only team in the 5-team league that throws hooks.
Let's talk about attacking a reverse block...
AKAIK, there are a few two basic ways to attack a reverse block. From the extreme inside or out near the gutter.

AKAIK, there are a few two basic ways to attack a reverse block. From the extreme inside or out near the gutter. I am actually going to try playing inside tonight. I usually go right down 10. I get too much over/under out side. A little slow it goes high. A little faster and it just skids.

Good luck with that. Since you have a lower rev rate be careful with your speed. Give it some time to hook. From the little I know about the Passion it has some late movement so that should help you out.
Tonight I'm facing that 41 ft flat pattern that I posted the graph of. I had a great practice session yesterday throwing straighter from the outside. I'm ready to roll tonight!

Yeah i plan to slow it down just a bit to give my passion time to read. I cant use my inferno because its a 320 and it will read too early.

I play mine from the deep inside. It's almost a normal comfort zone that I have made after some of the MJBTs.

Young i take that u have a much higher rev rate than me. On the scorpion with my inferno, at 15 mph, i played down 10. New synths and clean backends. That might show u how low my rev rate is.
