My house has just announced that starting in the fall all leagues are going from 24 lanes to 12 lanes. This shall suck. Instead of 4 person teams we will go to 5. Lineage will go up. The house thinks it can make a lot more on Open Bowling.

Bye to my home away from home. :(

Most likely bye to sport bowling and perhaps bye to men's league?

Bummer DW. That's kind of a risk relying on open bowling when leagues are a sure thing. We currently bowl a 5-man roster, which makes for a long wait between bowlers, but it's all I've ever known. There are two other leagues going, plus a strictly beer drinker's league they keep way down at the other end of the house. Open bowlers have to wait til we're done...as it should be. :D Hang in there...it may not be as bad as you think.

Seems funny this house is downsizing and raising the lineage . If he raises the cost of open play does he think more people will come? Get all your fellow bowlers in that house to sighn a petition and state how much you will miss your normal league play. It may or may not help.

Good idea re: the petition. My house is attached to a Casino/Hotel/Golf Course and the Indians believe that open bowling is their panacea to give the kids of the gamblers something to do while the parents gamble (I guess).

The declaration has been made by the "Committee/Tribe" and nothing can be done until the experiment gets a chance to run its course.

I just can't see there being many people wanting to do open bowling during the Fall, Winter and Spring during the week between 7-9 pm. We'll see!?

That is the most F'd up thing I've ever heard...why dump the guaranteed money of league bowlers for open bowling that has no guarantees...league bowlers spend more money on drinks and equipment at the pro shops than open bowlers...I'd find a new house to bowl at personally...you have my sympathies

Dont ask me where I heard this or even if I believe it but....Acording to a Corp. Brunswick managment meeting, there intensions/hopes are to obsolve all leagues and only cater to corp parties, birthday parties, group outings and banquets. They feel there is more total profit in this than having leagues.

I am so glad I don't live there or bowl at a Brunswick owned house.

The magic word in DW's post was "casino". You should know that everything else there plays second fiddle to THAT! They could care less wether or not those lanes make money. Take your business to a real bowling house and enjoy a better atmosphere there! Those Indians are not going to give a crap if there's leagues there or not!

As far as Brunswick goes,it's cheaper for them to have a half full house of open bowlers all day and pick it up a little more at nite. The pro shop can peddle just their junk balls and stuff, the lane man can lay down the cheapest oil patterns,(Less oil=more $$$$). We league bowlers are SO picky....great pro shop, other manufacturers balls(HAMMER) and tougher oil patterns,PBA etc. Plus we get a break on lineage and the open bowler doesn't,so more profit per game to the house. And open bowlers rent those crappy shoes and we don't!

how does that make sense? more moeny with half the lanes? i don't get it. sorry to hear about that man...good luck finding a new house or bowling in this one...is this just a temp thing or they're just cutting it in half for good?

At $4.50 to $5.00 a game plus shoe rental they would rather have that vs. league bowler at $2.00 to $2.50 a game with no shoe money. Plus open bowlers waste money on video games that we just walk on by. If a house ball chips or cracks,no big deal. One of our $200 balls has a problem, big deal! We don't chow down at the snack bar, they order the high dollar pizza.

If it is sunny by me, theres no one at the alley because its next to the beach, rainy, its packed, leagues are there all the time. Open bowling i think is to inconsistent just to stay alive on it.

True, but in this case it's a house with a casino/hotel/golf course with it. That gives it a steady stream of open bowlers. Big difference.

Rowdy... I reject your logic because it defies my own opinions, wants, and/or needs. Please stop before you anger the bowling Gods.

Sshhh,I thought I heard something. It almost sounded like....like...someone trying to....to.... hang on,I'll get it in a minute......damn......it's right there......damn it,I know I've heard that a thousand times before in a bowling alley.........shoot.......let me check the Magic 8 Ball......no,kinda fuzzy....I KNOW I've heard it before........let me think a sec.........getting clearer.......clearer.....I'VE GOT IT! IT'S THE SOUND OF AN ALLIGATOR MOUTH OVERLOADING A HUMMINGBIRD ASS! Or it could be an overinflated ego. They really both sound almost the same. They BOTH end the same, though. Sobs, crying and blowing nose's after I beat their lightweight ass on the lanes. Followed by a half hour of whining about WHY they lost. Too much oil. Not enough oil. Wrong ball. Bad grip......on and on and on and on.
