Hey guys. Just wondering when everybody starts getting nervous in a string. I have really never been nervous because the longest i've had is 7 and it was in the middle. The one where i shot 246 i threw a perfect shot and left a 10 pin. And missed it. The most i've thrown from the front is 6 and i left double wood after because i missed my mark by 2 boards right. (Reverse Block) I missed their early and got it back but this time i didn't. So when do u get real nervous.

Pain, I can't speak for everyone, but you start getting nervous around the 9 th stike. Then you step up in the 10th and the butterflies are really stirring around and it only gets worse for the 11th and final shot.'

Now if your'e talking 800, you start getting the butterflies around the 7th frame. It's that time when you know what you need to shoot. As you get closer and closer to the score you need, it's gets harder and harder to concentrate.

Keep foucused and it will all come together. I know I know, it's easier said than done, but after 2 or three the nerves aren't there anymore.

When you come to that point stay foucused and concentrate.

I don't know how i could even stand anymore. One thing i think i have to stop doing is calculating what i need in the oncoming frames to score what i want.

Yep, that very thing will get you every single time.

Yep, that very thing will get you every single time. Yeah i usually miss it that turn. I've done it once and struck out the sheet which was only 6 but i didn't mess up. I had like a 70 in the 6th. And then all of a sudden i threw 6 in a row to finish the series out.

Good topic. Its hard to really pick a specific number of strikes before the nervousness gets to its highest point. The 11th shot for me is when its hard to think straight and the 12th is when my legs feel rubbery.

That's when preshot routine, motor memory, and confidence that you have the best possible ball in your hands come into play! BREATHE! HIT YOUR MARK! and LET THE BOWLING GODS TAKE OVER!

That's when preshot routine That is something i don't have. Maybe if i create one that might be able to let me concentrate more and make better shots.

Definately the 10th you start. The 11th you try to take your mind off of the strike and hit you spot.
But the 12th I feel is the when you really feel it. I tend to grip the ball harder if I'm not concentrating and pull it thru the nose.
I take a couple of deep breaths and try not to think about it.:)

If you through the spare, then 10, then got like 7 on ur eleventh, you would shott 287. Maybe you meant u got the next 9, then missed, that would give you 277.

Its been a while. Well i know if you go like 8 1 in the first frame, then strike out, you shoot 279.

Well the most I had was 13 in a row. The last 11 in the first game, then the first two in the second game. I left a 9 count split in the first frame of the first game, and I was never nervous at all. But I always start to get nervous once once I get the front 6. I don't know why, but I just do.

I havent thrown a 800 but I know that going into the tenth the pressure is insane... My 299 I threw a good pocket shot in the 10th but went a little high got a messenger to save me on the eleventh and missed brooklyn in the 12th and left the 8 pin, I have never felt pressure like that before... Mainly cuz if I do get a high string together its after I spared in the first... I wish I could back to that feeling but its been a while now, and im thinking I will never get there...

i have actually found the 10th shot is the most pressure... found it quite surprising and its also something u have to do yourself you cant really explain it..

The 10th shot for me is the most pressure. You walk up knowing you need three more to complete the game and the first one is the most important.
My dad always said once you get the first one in the tenth the next 2 are a breeze. Yea right!!!!!

Dude get a pre-shot routine. This will help msucle memory take over.

The best advice I got from Tenpin was to take an extra breath. I usually have to do this by the 8th frame. (in our league you win a picture of beer after the 7th so some people tank the 8th).

When I was lucky enough to roll my 300 I was most nervous in the 9th and 10th frame. Once I hit the 10 tenth I actually relaxed and said "Hey clean game!". I had never hat the front 10 before, but I was damned if I was going to tell the story of how I came so close and missed it. So took a few extra breaths before shooting a was calm in the execution, thanks to a consistent pre-shot routine. I didn't have to think about 11 and 12, just took a breath and let my body throw the strikes!

My 10th was ok I was as relaxed as I could have been, what got to me was when the 10th was a strike the ladies bowling next to me cheered and I think it broke me. I threw a nice ball on the 11th and left a ringing 8 pin and missed the spare for my 288.

during my first 300 I didn't feel any pressure until I noticed that the rest of the league had stopped bowling and were watching me after my first strike in the tenth....plus one of those people was my dad...so it was a proud moment I didn't want to F up cuz he has never hada 300 and this was like giving him one since he coached me since I was little.

At 8 I got interested. 9 got my complete attention. 10 I was a nervous as a dog shitting razor blades. At 11 I tightened up on the release and missed my mark for a 9. Sucked it up and made the spare.:D

Best pressure reliever is getting a 9 spare in the first frame. I followed that with 11 in a row...and have the plaque to prove it. :D I then threw 4 more to start the next game. Why oh why couldn't I have done that in the same game? Oh well, it was fun anyway.

It was. And looking back,I put too much of it on myself. Should have just gone on auto-pilot and let all those years of expierence just take over. Oh well,I'll know what to do next time.

I just watched Tony Reyes bowling 300 on Cheetah pattern from 2006 tournament. After 8th he said "its hammertime, baby!" That is the mindet to get the 300. Draw on strength and celebrate. One more and one more until its done!

He was using a Hawgzilla so shined up that I thought he was using a BWP almost a year before its release!

You know how to really kill the butterflies? All you do is throw the first 10 in a row and then leave a stone 8 for fun. :p Happened to me twice this year, and I couldn't have thrown any better of shots on those. I would say to get nervous, would be around 8,9,and 10th frame, depending on how the first 7 went, if they were really mixed, then I wouldn't be very nervous because that shows that I have room, but if they were all mostly flush, it feels like you can't really hit anywhere else than where you were hitting.
